Jack Gray | Northcote Social Club

On the night before the release of his debut album, Jack Gray treated his Naarm/Melbourne fans to an intimate show full of fan favourites and wholesome vibes. Jack’s showmanship and dedication to his craft are outstanding, and his honesty and wholeheartedness in his music really connected to his audience in such a unique way like I’ve never seen before.

The fan response was overwhelming at this show – truly unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. It was so lovely to see Jack interact with the audience even mid-show, having fun banter with the crowd tying back to his Australian roots. People all over the room were singing Jack’s lyrics back to him, which must be a feeling like no other for an artist. Some fans were even singing lyrics of the songs that hadn’t yet been released, which is very impressive and shows just how fiercely loyal they are to Jack. The sense of community that he has established within his fanbase is so beautiful and the sheer amount of love in the room was really quite remarkable. Only a genuine artist can create an atmosphere like this, and Jack is most definitely that.

Jack Gray puts on a one-man show, which I think is a really important motif for him as an artist. He produced nearly his entire debut album himself, so seeing him on stage solo as well is really quite special. I think there’s something to be said about seeing a musician put so much work into every aspect of their music like Jack does, and it is really quite inspiring. The way he had a hold of the crowd even just as a single person on the stage was quite mesmerising. Everything from the musical arrangements to the lighting was so carefully selected and crafted, and all of the intricate details of this show did not go unnoticed. His vocals were absolutely on point, and he has such a unique tone that sounds so clean and effortless. Jack Gray really is a force to be reckoned with and there is nobody in the industry doing what he does. Jack’s debut album Swimming In Jeans is out now!
