A Rave For All Generations
On Friday, the final stop of The Presets' Hi Vis Australian Tour wrapped up at Nightquarter on the sunny Gold Coast. Electric supports Kult Kyss and Roland Tings moved and grooved the crowd prior to The Presets swinging set. Each act provided a rave for all generations.
Opening the evening's festivities were Melbournites, Kult Kyss who's signature sound rounded up the Coast's tastemakers and devout music fans. Since the pair emerged in late 2016, I've been utterly enthralled with their every release. Seeing them live for the first time didn't just meet my expectations, they were far surpassed. Kult Kyss delivered an ethereal set, performing their sensational singles, 'Chi Cup', 'I Am One', along with the pair's modernised take on Lorde's 'Homemade Dynamite'. Between each lush lyrical arrangement, chorale compositions amplified through Nightquarter. Dazzling wearable head dresses by Erica Gray crowned the pair, enriching the mystical aesthetic as the multicoloured LED display kicked in. Kult Kyss' invigorating stage presence, attire, boundary breaking production and vivacious vocals propelled the elated atmosphere ten-fold. I highly recommend following Kult Kyss, as they continue to take leaps forward and transcend the scene.
Fellow Melbourne muso, Roland Tings and crew maintained the zesty ambience with a chic set brimming with buoyant instrumentals. A mixture of live percussion, bold bass, and meaty modulation on the synths resulted in a dynamic performance filled with intricacies and production prowess. Each track was delicately constructed, then broken down before it was moulded into the next majestic mix. Before ending his set, Roland Tings gave a heartfelt shout out to The Presets stating, "I grew up on punk, indie, and a bunch of other music... when The Presets came in they melded all this with electro, and opened an entire new world to me." This touching tribute, set the stage for the forthcoming delight The Presets provided.
The Presets have a knack for drawing in fanbase from all generations. As the lights dimmed, fans aged 18 to 60+ roared, welcoming The Presets onto the stage. Performing a selection of classic creations such as 'Ghosts', and 'My People' the seasoned professionals blossomed on stage with their audacious audio, and cheery character. These classics were fused with tracks from the recent Hi Vis LP ensuing a captivating set for fans new and old. Euphoric projections illuminated the stage as The Presets romped through their convivial composition. A baroque lighting display gleamed over the heaving crowd, further thrusting the euphonic scene into a flurry. Each aspect of the set combined seamlessly to formulate an unforgettable night of colour, and sound!
Kult Kyss, Roland Tings, and The Presets all showcased the best of Australian electronic music in the Nightquarter. If any of these acts hit a stage close to you, I highly recommend taking the time to check each and every one of them out!
