Airports Interview - Retro Aesthetic

We caught up with Sydney producer and vocalist, Airports to talk about his brand new video for ‘Live In My Head’. The music video blends modern techniques with old school styles as it pays hommage to a retro aesthetic. You can read our previous chat about his track ‘Single Together’, HERE.

Futuremag Music: Hey Airports, what's cracking?

Airports: Hi Futuremag, not much just dropped a music video!

Futuremag Music: Jumping straight into it, could you outline the creative process of making a music video?

Airports Oh man, it's overwhelming when you're an independent artist but also so fun and nice to have creative control. I start by talking to my video team, pitching them the vision then we refine the storyboard and start sourcing locations, cast, props, equipment etc. The rest is spreadsheet skills and hoping for the best. I've def had video shoots go wrong (not this one though)!

Futuremag Music: Continuing on that notion, could you explain what went into the making of the 'Live In My Head' music video? Where did the visual aesthetic come from, how did you develop the theming, pacing, etc?

Airports I'm a big fan of 80's/90's horror & thriller film aesthetics. Spielberg-esque brought into modern film (like what Stranger Things have achieved). For this particular song I wanted to match it with that neon 80's feeling, wide cinematic shots, VHS FX, etc.

I wrote the storyline while writing the song and it came together exactly as envisioned! Even our lead female role (Ellen Rose) was who I had in mind.

Futuremag Music: If you could construct a dream team of film makers, who would you select and why?

Airports SHOUTOUT ALERT! I already got them for where I'm at - Emma Corrigan (Director & Co-producer), Trystin Sinnott (Film & Editing), Paul Verhoef (Assistant Director), Tayla Jae (co-produced).
But if we could add anyone I would add the iconic cinematographer Dean Cundey (Jurrasic Park, The Fog, Back To The Future) just to spice things up!

Futuremag Music: What's the plan for the ‘Airports’ project throughout 2019?

Airports More songs, More Videos. Follow me on the gram for all the goss, @airportsAU
