EXTENDED PLAYLIST 098: 5 SONGS YOU MUST HAVE ON YOUR OUTBACK COMEDY TOUR PLAYLIST | AMY HETHERINGTON

Playlist by Amy Hetherington

Comedian Amy Hetherington is covering over 20,000km on her big regional comedy tour. That’s a lot of time in the car! With over 50 gigs across the country, we asked her what songs you need on an outback comedy tour play list.

Hey mates. I’m halfway across the Nullabor. I’ve overtaken about 30 caravans and eaten four bacon and egg sandwiches. I’m living the dream. Outback touring is the best and one of the things that makes it fun is curating the perfect playlist. I’ve got five songs that you MUST have if you’re doing a regional comedy tour… let me know if you agree with me at @amyhetherington on Insta (happy to fight about music anytime)

Amyl and the Sniffers - Hertz

The best road trip song ever! Hits hard. Perfect match of energy because I’m touring at the moment in a VS Commodore with no aircon. Got the windows down, it’s loud and I can shout along to Amyl and the Sniffers. Take me to the beach! Take me to the country!

Bad//Dreems - See Ya Tomorrow

Bad//Dreems are my favourite band. I’m concerningly obsessed with them and they’ve probably blocked me on social media. See Ya Tomorrow is a deranged banger and lyrically feels like a roadtrip because there’s a lot of time to think about weird things. Also very satisfying this tour because I drove through Whyalla and a few other reference points of the song.

Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody

My favourite song of all time is a contrast to the Aussie punk in most of my playlists, but you need a pop sing along anthem. Essential for the feel-good, feminine energy and it cracks up the truck drivers when you pull into an outback servo with this on.

Cosmic Psychos - Nice Day To Go to The Pub

Tour life means a lot of pub food and when you’re driving around Australia in the summer, it’s always a nice day to go to the pub. Schnitzels are their own food group on this tour and I’m very lucky that calories don’t count when you’re on the road.

Scared Weird Little Guys - Come To Australia

Got to have a comedy tune in there. It is a comedy road trip after all. And this song is a great reminder that doing an outback comedy tour is brave. Not only are you trying to make tough regional crowds laugh, but you also have to battle the elements – including the spiders in the outback dunnies.
