AUSTEN - Darkside
By Liz Ansley,
Off the back of her debut single 'Faded' comes Austen’s new cut 'Darkside', a sultry and sophisticated alt-pop offering co-written with Vespyro and produced by Andrei Eremin (Wafia, Japanese Wallpaper, Kllo, Chet Faker).
A brooding take on the chaos of relationships, the track (premiered along with its understated video on Stoney Roads today) swirls with spacious synths and a vocal that plays between commanding and ethereal. The Brisbane up-and-comer says 'Darkside' was “written about being the type of person that attracts and thrives on chaos, how that tints the ways that you love someone… the way that romance can feel a lot like losing your mind."
'Faded', the track that introduced Austen to the world, proved meteoric for the young artist. The song is currently sitting at over 300k plays on Spotify and counting, with multiple spins on triple j to boot. Austen embarked on a whirlwind of high-profile supports in the songs' wake, including KLP and Nicole Millar. With 'Darkside', Austen pulls off a deeply satisfying, polished one-two punch that's sure to cement her as one of the most promising rising voices of her kind.
