Bajillionaire Interview - A Natural Extension
Meet Bajillionaire, a long time favourite at Futuremag Music, and an all round legend. We've been following Bajillionaire from the early days, and now the producer is back with an outstanding single that's set to take him to new heights. We had a chat to Charlie, the man behind the project about his new single, 'Take It & Run' featuring ectetera, his start in music, and much more.
Futuremag Music: Hey Bajillionaire, what's happening down in Sydney town?
Bajillionaire: Hey man! Sydney is pretty chill at the moment, it's been raining for the first time in a few months, so I'm enjoying staying inside and writing some cool new music.
Futuremag Music: We've been longtime followers of your project, and to see your continuous development has been exciting. For those unfamiliar with the Bajillionaire project, can you talk through how you started to produce, and your relationship with music over the years?
Bajillionaire: Thank you man! Bajillionaire is the second moniker I've ever produced under, and I started the project around 2016 I think. I started producing in 2013 or so I believe, but had been playing music and in bands since I was about 7 years old, so production was just a natural extension of wanting to write music by myself, and not have to rely on anyone else to make music that I want to make. The Bajillionaire project itself is just an extension of myself; doesn't take itself too seriously and super-hyper emotional all at once.
Futuremag Music: Your recent single 'Take It & Run' featuring ectetera is an absolute jam! What went into the writing process?
Bajillionaire: So this song is probably the most personal thing I've ever released, and the fact that it's been so well received so far means the absolute world to me. It started out with solely the chorus chords and the hook, and stayed that way for about 3 months, until I went to hang out with Em (etcetera) to grab a beer, and after showing it to her, she really pushed me to flesh out the idea. Funnily enough, I met Em at World Bar the first time I ever went, and since then we have been super close friends, and working on this song was no different from the rest of our friendship; super chill and fun!
Futuremag Music: What's the plan for Bajillionaire over the next 12 months?
Bajillionaire: That's a tough one; I have a lot of lofty ambitions for the future, but for the next 12 months my main plans are to write and release some music that I really, really love, collaborate with some more awesome artists, and try to start playing some live shows. Oh and also try to lose all this winter fat, so I can play pool parties and take my shirt off.
Futuremag Music: A funny one to wrap it up. If 'Bajillionaire' was a cocktail, what would be in it to best describe yourself and your music?
Bajillionaire: Equal parts Pineapple, Malibu, and self-depreciation, served in a mason jug that is too small to drink out of so you bump your nose on the rim and the drink spills all over you.
