Betical Interview - Emotive Escapism
Meet French duo, Betical. The pair have been making waves in the European scene with their deep dance releases. Betical’s tracks feature deep textures that induce a sense of emotive escapism. We spoke to the pair about the development of the project, their new single ‘Runnin’ and more.
Futuremag Music: Hey Betical, how’s life, the universe and everything?
Betical: Hey, everything is good. We are working on a lot of exciting projects at the moment; our two new singles are coming soon. We also have an official remix for a big artist in the works and our new video clip for ‘Runnin’; is finally finished!
Futuremag Music: Can you outline the themes throughout your recent release, ‘Runnin’? How does this track fit into the world’s current political and social climate?
Betical: When producing ‘Runnin’, we meant to celebrate the positive energies created by melancholy; such as the emotions you get from an early morning sunrise. The title of the track represents the (desperate) need young people of our age have for freedom and escape. The track is quite long as the build up reflects a pursuit of deliverance.
Futuremag Music: Could you please give us some insight to ‘Runnin’s production and writing process. Are there any aspects of the single that resonates with you?
Betical: We received a mail from Tailor (the singer of ‘Runnin’) telling us that he was interested in collaborating on a track with us. We sent him an instrumental that we previously had and he sang a rough idea on it. We received a full topline and we were keen on a hook (the one we kept). However, the instrumental wasn’t efficient enough so we decided to start a new beat with old chords. We speed up the acapella from 110 to 120 and started building the track around it. And that’s it, Runnin was born.
Futuremag Music: Could you talk us through the project’s evolution and your future direction?
Betical: We are working a lot on our live set, which is something completely new to us and represents a huge amount of work but it’s pretty inspiring.
Futuremag Music: A funny one to wrap it up, if ’Betical’ was a cocktail, what would be in it to best describe yourselves and your music?
Betical: It would be a mix between techno club inspired music with a touch of melancholy and organic sounds.
