Hybrid electronic band, IDIOTAPE is positioned somewhere between electro, techno, rock, and heavy metal. Their unique musical identity is a harmonious blend of influences. We caught up with the IDIOTAPE to discuss their new single ‘Future That Never Comes’, their relationship with music and much more.

Futuremag Music: Hi IDIOTAPE, how are you doing?

Dguru: We are working on the artwork and visual work of coming up singles. Also preparing for the live performance of the new singles.

DR: Focusing on the promotion of the new single and working on the collaboration project with other artists.

Zeze: We finished the new tracks early this year and just started to release the tracks this July. I hope all my friend artist could get over well this difficult time.

Futuremag Music: Could you talk us through how you all met and your relationship with music over the years?

Dguru: I’ve known Zeze when I was into raving and clubbing. I used to love to put myself inside the woofer speakers to listen to the music at the club. I found out someone who put the body inside the woofer speakers just like me as I put myself out of the speakers. That was Zeze and we become friends right away. In 2008, when the idea of making electronic music in the format of the band popped up, I told Zeze to join in. In 2009, DR joined.

DR: I had been playing with the pop-rock band for a long time and wished to do a new project. Dguru told me that he would start the new style of the band and asked me to join. I couldn’t fully understand what Dguru was planning, but was sure that it would be a new adventure for me. I felt confused first time listening to the demo of IDIOTAPE since it was different from the music that I used to listen to but I got attracted to this new sound. Every time we are making new music, we inspire each other. For me, IDIOTAPE is something that can’t be defined in certain words. This unlimited possibility is the biggest charms of the IDIOTAPE.

Futuremag Music: You recently released ‘Future That Never Comes’. Could you outline the production and writing process for the single?  

Zeze: While I was working on the track, the illustrations from Gerard K. O'Neill’s book ‘The High Frontier: Human Colonies in Space’ came up in mind. I used to love sci-fi images as it showed the development and achievement of the human being. From those images, I believe that the whole world would enjoy the full advantage of the technology with equal opportunities. I had the hope that everyone would share the high quality of knowledge and eventually the development of the technology would rescue humanity. Unfortunately, it seems like those futures that I imagined are much far away.
In this single, I tried to express the sound and the mechanism of the electronic music that I listened to when I was young. The futures we imaged did not come yet, but, still, we could enjoy those futures in this track.

Futuremag Music: To wrap it up if IDIOTAPE was a cocktail, what would be in it to best describe the project?

Dguru: Espresso Martini. Make people awake and drunken at the same time.

Zeze: I would be Vodka, Dguru would be Kahlua and DR would be the ice cube. Mixing all together, it would be my favorite cocktail, Black Russian.
