Creative Conversations 020: Miss The Club? JaySounds Has You Covered With 'Control'

Words by Luke Byatt

Sydney’s JaySounds has been a force to be reckoned with in domestic and international dance circles for a number of years. We caught up with the accomplished producer to chat through his recent single ‘Control’ in collaboration with equally acclaimed artist Bianca.

Futuremag Music: Hey JaySounds, how're you holding up in this COVID world?

JaySounds: Although I do miss the clubs and festivals, I really do appreciate the time off from gigs. For me, it was a reset. It’s really forced me to get into a creative zone and spend more time on myself and my health too. I also took the opportunity to renovate my studio and I’ve never been happier with the music I’ve been writing since.

Futuremag Music: Congratulations on the release of 'Control', but before we jump into it could you talk us through your journey with music over the years?

JaySounds: Thank you! I’ve been fortunate enough to release my music on some credible labels throughout the years and have had the opportunity to work with so many talented artists whom I’ve learnt a lot from! I’d love to take all the credit for ‘Control’ but Bianca’s writing skills and incredible voice really brought this song to life!  Making music has been my thing for nearly 7 years now and it’s taken me this whole time to finally make art I can pride myself in... Sometimes I wish I could delete half of the songs off my Spotify haha but it’s good to look back and see how much my music has progressed.

Futuremag Music: 'Control' is vibe central! Could you outline the production process and how you looped in with Bianca?

JaySounds: Bianca and I met years ago through some mutual friends and have worked on multiple projects for pop artists together.  Her talent and drive is something I haven’t seen from many other artists. B and I were involved in a few writing camps together and were fortunate enough to have a placement in the Aquaman movie! It was only a matter of time before we made a song together... Originally I sent B the bass and arp loop over some basic drums and when she sent the topline back I knew exactly what I needed to do to finish the record!

Futuremag Music: To wrap it up, if JaySounds was a cocktail what would be in it to best describe the project?

JaySounds: It would simply be my favourite; Passionfruit caprioska... a bit of passion, a little sweet but it’ll hopefully make you want to party.
