Crooked Colours - Vivacious Vistas

With the recent release of Crooked Colour’s second album Langata, we were treated to another phenomenal tour from the Perth trio. The LP’s vivacious electronic vistas were expertly translated for the tour. Futuremag Music photographer, Keely Baker and I headed along to The Tivoli in Brisbane to see Crooked Colours and their spirited supports, nail their sets.

Opening the evening festivities was Queensland producer and composer, Borderland State. Expansive ensembles and terrific textures were central to Borderland State’s expertly crafted performance. The musician’s adept artistry transported early comers through a verdant soundscape, setting the stage for the evening ahead. Be sure to keep a close eye on Borderland State, as he continues to make leaps and bounds through the scene.

Following in a similar vein were Perth via Sydney funksters, Kayex. The duo brought their signature retro pop infused dance hits to stage, igniting the The Tivoli into a frenzy. Covering the cult classic Gorillaz, as well as their hit singles ‘My Friends’, ‘The Get Up’, and ‘5:29’, Kayex hyped the steadily burgeoning crowd. The pair’s infectious energy was the prefect prelude to what was to come.

Electro pop star, Nyxen advanced the animated aura with her lavish set. Blending analogue arrangements with electrifying samples, Nyxen’s production prowess was on full display to the delight of the allured audience. The artist’s dynamic set brimmed with enthralling elements and invigorating breakdowns. Nyxen’s powerhouse releases ‘Chains’, ‘In The City’, and ‘Monster’ propelled the performance to new heights.

After three audacious supports, Crooked Colours took the stage with vigour! With the recent release of Langata, punters were enthralled for the forthcoming performance. Crooked Colours delivered with an extravagant concert to the indulgence of ravished revellers. Langata’s deep structure was rendered harmoniously into a live setting as luminous visuals radiated from the stage. Crooked Colours are veterans of the scene and know how to flourish in the limelight. The trio’s set undoubtably being one of the most polished performances I’ve seen recently.

Crooked Colours are continuing on their upward trajectory and there’s no slowing down. Be sure to catch Borderland State, Kayex, Nyxen and of course Crooked Colours next time their in your town or city!
