Dancing Through Time
Have you ever thought about travelling back through time, to experience some of the greatest hits of all time?
Sydney based DJ, Hot Dub Time Machine does just that, by celebrating some of the greatest hits from 1954 to 2018. I was lucky enough to catch him at The Tivoli in Brisbane, on Friday night. Supporting the time traveller was Gold Coast producer and all round legend, Paces.
Opening Tivoli's portal to another realm, Paces introduced his signature feel good electro and released his passionate party persona. The Gold Coast producer melded vivid vistas with buoyant beats, propelling the crowd into a fantastic frenzy. Joining Paces on stage was Sunshine Coast (via Gold Coast) vocalist Doolie, whose lush lyrics diffused through The Tivoli's rich art deco halls. Paces' set was the perfect start for what was to come.
A large screen projected the 15 minute countdown to Hot Dub's anticipated appearance. The audience, a collection of all generations, roared as Hot Dub Time Machine appeared, transporting the Tivoli back to 1954. Each decade brought in a selection of classics! Outstanding acts such as; The Beatles, Dolly Parton, Nena, AC/DC, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Led Zeppelin, Eurythmics, David Bowie, Durude, Britney Spears, Daft Punk, Justice, Sir Mix A Lot, PNAU, Baker Boy, Peking Duk, and so many others celebrated music history over a two hour sonic ensemble. Hot Dub's show is meticulously mixed. The evening was packed with highlights, including guest appearances from beat boxing extraordinaire Tom Thum, and Sydney's up and coming pop sensation Samsaruh. Another memorable moment occurred when 99 Red Balloons dropped from the rafters, as Nena's original 80's German classic 99 Luftballons' rung out. Hot Dub closed the show with Peking Duk's bamger 'Higher' followed by the jubilant crowd chanting "Best Party Ever!"
Hot Dub Time Machine and Paces are natural born entertainers. Each and every performance the pair produce leaves me wide eyed and full of butterflies, excited and amped to see their next show.
