EXTENDED PLAY 056: OUR FAVOURITES FROM DEKELYN'S SOPHOMORE ALBUM; FAR FROM YOUNGER
Words by Sam and Matilda Elliott.
Dekelyn, the duo hailing from Western Sydney, have done it again, releasing their sophomore album, Far From Younger.
If you haven’t seen them before, we encourage you to watch the interview Sam did with the duo about their creative processes here.
In light of their newest release, and the boys set to give their Gadigal/Sydney friends a treat in their live performance this coming Saturday, we thought we would review our favourite songs from the album. Tell us in the comments if you agree or if you have any other faves!
So Far From Home opens the release in a wonderful way. Placing the tunes in such a dreamy setting leading the way into the slew of songs. A steady flow of backbeat and tinkling of tunes propel the words forwards. The track is a wistful and hopeful bop that gazes into the future with starry and bright lenses.
Same Old Story has a bit of a whirring and mystical backbeat, which only serves to give the deep words of this track a solid foundation to push meaning deep into the listener’s ears. Dekelyn have a way of connecting with their audience in such a gentle, yet stark manner. We can all connect and appreciate the words coming from the band, giving us this universal connection through their music.
Only You is another highlight of this incredible release for us. Sammi Constantine and Dekleyn really gel together in a way we could’t have picked before hearing this release, but couldn’t exist without now.
Dekleyn will be launching their sophomore album on Saturday, October 21st at The Lady Hampshire with special guests Late June (NZ) and Sammi Constantine (SYD).
