DYLAN Interview - Love On Your Side
Interview by Sean Tayler
After the release of his new remix EP ‘Love On Your Side’, we had a chat with producer and television music judge DYLAN.
Futuremag Music: Hey DYLAN! Congratulations of the release of ‘Love On Your Side’! How have you found the reception on the single?
DYLAN: Firstly, thank you so much. I’m completely overwhelmed by the reception of this song - it’s my most personal song to date. I can’t even express how it makes me feel for it to be received by the public the way that it has.
Futuremag Music: The release has nine different versions of the track, what has it been like hearing different producers takes on your track?
DYLAN: As I mentioned, this song is my most personal to date. I wrote it for my Aunty not long after she passed away from a long battle with cancer. She was one of my biggest supporters and I wanted to pay homage to her in a positive way, reminiscing on the good times. It’s an anthem for anyone who is struggling with the loss of someone close to them and to remind them that there is always love on your side.
Each version of this track has its own identity. I wanted the song to invoke different feelings and emotions to each and every person – and to experience each producers take on it has been incredibly validating and humbling. I want to thank everybody involved for helping bring this vision to life.
Futuremag Music: You’ve supported shows for Lady Gaga among others, so it’s safe to say you know how to start a party. What are some of your favourite artists at the moment?
DYLAN: P!nk has to be my all-time favourite artist. She is real, honest, stands up for the underdog and this comes through in her emotionally charged songs. Her music empowers people all over the world to make a change, take a stand, and that you can be whoever and whatever you want to be.
I can’t answer this question without mentioning absolute music royalty with the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, David Bowie, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Sir Elton John, George Michael, Freddie Mercury, Cher, Madonna and the list goes on and on.
However, more contemporary artists like Sam Smith, Robyn, Lady Gaga, Troye Sivan to name a few have also greatly inspired me and my music.
Futuremag Music: As a judge in the new Australian TV show ‘All Together Now’, what is it like working with so many well-renowned creatives?
DYLAN: It has been a life changing experience. Not only have I learned so much from my fellow judges, I also learned a lot more about myself and what I can offer to the next generation of budding artists.
Futuremag Music: To wrap things up, if you and your music were a cocktail, what would be in it?
DYLAN: It would have to be Vodka, Tequila and Fireball – something to get the party started and keep it going, hits you hard and fast, but it also fills you with the warmth and fuzziness from the inside out.
