Extended Play 002: Isla Den - Acid Dream
Words by Sarah Wolfe
Toronto based electronic duo, Isla Den (Ellie Manning and Michael Reale) have invited us deep into their world of tasty, eclectic synth pop for their newest offering, Acid Dream. The pair’s Acid Dream EP comprises of five tracks; ‘Eccoportal’, ‘Myst’, ‘Ever Palace’, ‘Indigo2’, and ‘Formulate’. Each record feels like its own distinctive layer of lucid dreaming, dipping deeper into your subconscious with each play.
“Lyrically, Myst examines the idea of diving deep into the parts of yourself you don’t like and confronting those demons in order to grow. It’s about the need to discover and dissolve the pain within to feel free. The concept of non-linear time is a theme on this EP and Myst deals with that idea through the lens someone struggling to move forward without dealing with the past.”
Swirling synths, smooth vocals, delicious harmonies, and ethereal sonic textures make this the perfect EP for wistfully looking out the car on a road trip with your parents, pretending you’re all alone in a music video and shutting out the rest of the world.
Sit back, close your eyes, and take it all in with the Acid Dream EP.
