Extended Play 006: Luboku - Pale Blue Dot / Lift Off

Words by Justin Pix

Melbourne producer, Luboku is back with a brand new EP Pale Blue Dot/Lift Off, an impressive exploration of electronic music. The record probes into the spirituous, enigmatic soundscapes of space, through placing them in harmony with chill house grooves. This leads to an electrifying experience that draws listeners into the enormousness of the cosmos.

The Intro track, ‘Pale Blue Dot’ proves the versatile prowess of Luboku, where a harrowing atmosphere morphs into dynamic synthscapes. Launching with a Carl Sagain quote, the track equips arpeggiated synths with a dark bassline, which exude a dystopian undertone. The single’s production quickly allows the listener to explore the fragility of humans as those who exist in the vastness of empty space.

Bridging the gap between ‘Pale Blue Dot’ and ‘Lift Off’ is the tantalising ‘T-Minus’.

The EP’s title track, ‘Lift Off’ pays attention to early/mid 2000s electro house, manufacturing a nostalgic tenor with crepuscular tones. With warm, echoing vocals wrapping around more arpeggiated synths, deep house beats and acoustic guitar, Luboku hammers down the somber feeling of the track. This is further explored by tremendous synths that take control of the chorus assisted by space mission samples in the buildups.

To close the EP, Luboku flaunts his artistry one last time with an extended instrumental cut of ‘Lift Off’, a lush conclusion.

The Pale Blue Dot/Lift Off EP displays Luboku’s impressive production quality and we are keen for what's next!

You can’t help but put into perspective humanity’s insignificance when you look at that image of a tiny speck of dust. Our hopes and dreams, our loved ones and memories, failures and fuck ups as an individual and species are presented on nothing more than a tiny, pale blue dot surrounded by the enormity of the universe.
