Extended Play 009: Hessian - Misconceptions

Words by Luke Byatt

I first stumbled across Hessian with the release of his A/B side, Humanism / Ataraxia. For months I was hooked with the introspective and deeply meditative soundscape the Bristol based artist created. Now with the release of Misconceptions, I can lose myself in another world of delightful dance.

Misconceptions, is everything you want and more from a house EP. Sensuous synths, delectable 808s, and sweet vocal samples envelope the listener across the four track record. From listening to the body of work a few times, there are a couple of ways to delve into it for a lasting experience... I firstly recommend listening through all four singles consecutively with headphones or a sound system; fully embracing the texture and warmth emanating from Hessian’s verdant production. After the first run through I suggest exploring the abstract nature of your favourite record, to appreciate the dedication to sound design, and to cherish the fabric of the record. If neither of these listening proposals tickle your fancy, Misconceptions is still a belter of an EP that should not be missed.

So many tracks and artists cross my radar, but Hessian is set to be a stalwart and integral figure in my listening habits.
