Words by Luke Byatt
Prolific Perth producer, Ukiyo has delivered a glistening beacon of hope in a year brimming with disheartening events. With the release of his self titled LP, Ukiyo, the accomplished artist takes the listener on a journey of blissful auditory escapism.
Throughout Ukiyo’s 13 track structure, Ukiyo invites numerous collaborators into the fold; administering a healthy dose of complementary sonic perspectives. With the likes of Isla, Feelds, JANEVA, Maribelle, Panama, Sammi Constantine, Bajillionaire and Brewer jumping on vocal and composition duties, the LP flaunts a diverse electronic semblance that’ll invigorate the senses. Assembled within the album’s bounds, this creative collective mirrors the flourishing sense of community and strengthening bonds between individuals seen through the trials and tribulations of 2020. Segmented between the vocal driven records, Ukiyo touches on the pristine production that the Perth producer is renown for. The beatific essence Ukiyo has imbued into his self-titled LP was an uplifting affair that contentedly soundtracked my weekend, and many more to come.
With a debut LP out in the world and an extensive catalogue behind him, we are certainly set for Ukiyo music until his next release.
