EXTENDED PLAY 058: NEW MUSIC OF THE WEEK - FEBRUARY 12-18
It’s the weekend and we’re coming to you with our picks of the bunch from the latest releases by Aussie artists in the last week!
Each week Futuremag chooses its favourite new music and adds it to the playlist FMM Faves 2024.
Middle Kids - Faith Crisis Pt 1 (album)
Indie trio Middle Kids have come out with their third album, coinciding with an announcement for a national tour in the middle of the year.
The album features 13 gorgeous tracks including a magical collaborative tune with Gang of Youths lead singer Dave Le’aupepe as the closer.
Royel Otis - PRATTS & PAIN (album)
After their biggest year yet, Royel Otis have started 2024 with a bang, releasing their first full-length album.
While fans of the band will recognise the likes of singles ‘Fried Rice and Sofa Kings’ on the album, ‘Foam’ was released days before the album came out, while others including ‘Adored’, ‘Glory Glory’ and ‘Heading For The Door’ are sure to become favourites.
Siobhan Cotchin - Too Good To Be True (song)
Singer-songwriter Siobhan Cotchin has capitalised on her opening slot supporting Matchbox Twenty and the Goo Goo Dolls in Australia with the emotionally-charged ‘Too Good To Be True’.
The song is Siobhan’s most in-depth dive into the pop realm, describing it as “showing a softer, more vulnerable side to myself.”
Gypsy Road - The 7 Stages of Grief (song)
Post-punk outfit Gypsy Road’s latest tune is as passionate as it comes with the vocals of frontman Alex Centofani as well as backing vocals by female vocalist (Peony Cain), tugging at the heartstrings.
The song navigates the intense feelings of a breakup and how it can sometimes feel like mourning someone who has died.
Jebediah- Motivation (song)
Aussie rockers Jebediah have released the third single of their upcoming album ‘Oiks’, following up on ‘Gum Up The Bearings’ and ‘Rubberman’ in 2023.
Motivation serves a reminder that although this will be the group’s first record in 13 years, they haven’t lost any touch of the sound that made them so popular in the 1990s and 2000s.
POLLY- We’re not really strangers (song)
Following up on her first single last year ‘Sunday’, Polly is back with her second release, ‘We’re not really strangers’.
The song is both radio-friendly as a bubbling pop tune, while it’s also packed with pumping dance floor energy.
