EXTENDED PLAY 060: NEW MUSIC OF THE WEEK - FEBRUARY 19-25

It’s been a huge week for new releases by Australian music and we’re coming to you with our biggest selection yet!

There’s been some stellar tunes shared to the world by incredible artists so have a listen and add what you like to your playlist!

Arty Ziff - ‘acetone’ (feat. Cry Club)

Arty Ziff is back and hitting the ground running with a sparkling new single ‘acetone’, his first single of 2024 which features pop-punk duo Cry Club on collaborative duties.

The track has been described by Arty Ziff as being about “trying to be someone but things just aren’t lining up”.

Sophian- ‘Dance With Me’

Sophian’s latest tune dropped with a viby new music video for a band that is absolutely going places.

This song wouldn’t look out of place somewhere in next year’s Triple J Hottest 100 as it is in a similar vein to the likes of Lime Cordiale and Spacey Jane.

Xavier Rudd- ‘World Order- Part 1’

Singer-songwriter Xavier Rudd has announced the first two singles of his upcoming EP release in March.

World Order- Part 1 and World Order- Part 2 take the listener on a journey “that explores the two parts or the yin and yang that is in everything and manifests within us so often,” Rudd says.

Holly Hebe - ‘Hat Hair’

Hat Hair is a dreamy indie-pop tune which was actually written mostly on guitar after Hebe found the lyrics in her phone notes!

The Melbourne artist’s new single is about the real fine details about a crush, such as their clothes, mannerisms or how the way their hair falls.

Between You & Me- ‘In The Middle’

Like Sophian, Between You & Me’s new single has been released with an accompanying music video.

In The Middle is a brilliantly punk take on the slow breakdown of a relationship and the acceptance in moving on. It has already racked up 15,000 views on YouTube!

Girl and Girl- ‘Hello’

Girl and Girl’s new track Hello practically bursts through the speakers, amplified by the masterful drums, no-bullshit lyrics and unique tone of singer Kai James.

The group has also released an accompanying music video with the song. It’s the start of a big year for Girl and Girl who will support Royel Otis on a 20-date run in the US!

Tora- ‘Jigglypuff’

Four-piece Tora are back with their first single in two and a half years and it’s a cracker!

The tune takes a slight sonic detour and contains pulsing synths layered under intimate and honest vocals.

Cxloe- ‘No Service’

Cxloe’s new EP ‘No Service’ dropped last week and the title track is mesmering to say the least.

The song is pulsating from the get-go, moving to a quick beat with a mix of pop and electronica. It’s just a shame it’s only 2:20 min long!
