EXTENDED PLAY 065: NEW MUSIC OF THE WEEK - MARCH 25-31
Happy Easter! Enjoy our egg-cellent extended play of new releases from last week!
Ruel & DMA’S - What A Life
Australian sensation Ruel and indie rockers DMA’S collaborated on a special two-song project, with the first released in the past week.
What A Life is a wholesome track, one where DMA’S frontman Tommy O’Dell’s vocals compliments Ruel’s perfectly and we can’t wait to hear the second song they have for us that they teased in a live performance at the Enmore Theatre last year.
Girl and Girl - Mother
One month after the release of ‘Hello’, Girl and Girl are back with another single from their anticipated debut album Call A Doctor out in May.
Singer Kai James’ songwriting depicts the evolution of his relationship with his mother and it comes together in a fast-paced, upbeat groove with jangly guitar and catchy drums.
Phoebe Go - Leave
The newest single from Phoebe Go is another preview of her upcoming debut LP Marmalade, following the releases of 7 Up and Something You Were Trying.
Phoebe’s vocals are vulnerable and beautiful in Leave as she captures a time in her life where she “felt kinda paralysed”.
Hiatus Kaiyote - Make Friends
The second offering from Hiatius Kaiyote’s upcoming project was inspired by words of a wisdom to the band by a friend who said “You don’t make friends, you recognise them.”
Nai’s voice on this track soars high and low over and is musically fluid, featuring sounds of funk, dance, pop, RnB and psychedelia.
Xavier Rudd - Freedom Sessions (EP)
Xavier Rudd’s 6-track release features four previously released singles including World Order and High Times.
“My first EP release in 25 years, ‘Freedom Sessions’ was created during a particularly unique period of time… and is a celebration of the blessing of ‘freedom’ - a simple state of being that we all should have the right to exist in.”
Blusher - Accelerator
Pop-trio Blusher have shared a new single which lives up to the name.
Accelerator is a high speed, hard hitting dance-floor anthem and captures the feeling of turning up the intensity on life.
The Buoys - Subject A
The second single from The Buoys this year follows on from Guard My Heart and targets the ‘subject’ described as the “quintessential f*** boy.”
From the get-go, the rhythm reels you in as Zoe’s voice begins conversationally over a pounding drum beat, before a lovely riff drives the listener into the chorus.
Boone - Maybe Im Too Late
Created from a viral moment of not being able to secure Fred Again tickets, Boonie returns with a stunning vocal house track.
Jnr. - 4DAYS/4NIGHTS
Jnr. has released his second single of the year. Catch him at Wayards with lovemedo and harper on April 11.
JUNO - i’m the man
Lead singer and frontwoman Kahlia Ferguson, explained she wrote this song for her younger self who would have never imaged being capable of standing on stage and exuding the sort of confidence required to sing a song like it.
