Future Focus 027: Eluera, cookii, Running Touch

Words by Luke Byatt

Welcome to Future Focus, an editorial series providing a personable glimpse into some of best music releasing in the scene. Future Focus 027 features the diverse and vibrant sounds of Eluera, cookii, and Running Touch.

Eluera - Moderation

Eluera, Futuremag Music’s favourite pop star is back with ‘Moderation’, and it’s an absolute bop!

I haven’t been one to hide my sheer fandom for Eleura, and her latest record ‘Moderation’ is another massive tick in my book of perfectly crafted pop. Produced by Dylan Nash (another favourite for Futuremag Music), the single explores the “all or nothing” attitude the NSW Central Coast artist possess. Touching on the personable retro flair seen in Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia, ‘Moderation’ seeps into the human condition while embracing a notion of palatable danceability. Paired with the single’s release is a lavish music video by Jacob Thomas. The video captures Eluera’s captivating stage presence, a sight we would’ve witnessed at her debut headline show which was canceled due to COVID-19 earlier this year.

Eluera is one of Australia’s most promising pop acts and I can’t wait to see her at the rescheduled headline on the 28th October at Oxford Art Factory. You can secure your tickets, HERE.

I wanted to do something performance based after the cancelation of my first headline show. I thought it would be interesting to do to an empty theatre considering the situation we are all in at the moment.

cookii - love yourself

With the world of PC music is rapidly expanding into the mainstream, cookii is poised and ready to dominate with ‘love yourself’.

cookii appeared in the scene with ‘coca-cola’ earlier this year and into the lives of the highly involved PC music community. The release of ‘love yourself’ is a fitting follow up, diving deep into the world of bubblegum pop and high energy production. If you’re an avid fan of SOPHIE, Charli XCX, or Wave Racer, this mysterious act is someone who certainly should be on your radar. Who is cookii? Not quite sure, but one thing I can say for certain is that they’re quickly becoming a primary figure within the Australian PC landscape.

I’m intrigued with cookii’s story and what else is in store for us moving forward… I’ll be diligently waiting and watching.

This song is about spending big if it makes you feel good! I wanted to write a mega over-the-top tune that would embrace loving yourself as well as spending money on clothing.

Running Touch - Signs

Over the years Melbourne’s Running Touch has proven himself as the premier of Australian electronica music. The release of ‘Signs’ solidifies the multidimensional creative as a leader in the scene.

‘Signs’ is your trademark Running Touch release; blending gorgeous guitar, visceral vocals, and an infectious production into a crisp composition. The alt-rock, electronic hybrid of ‘Signs’ veers away from Running Touch’s more dance sonic seen in ‘When I’m Around You’ or ‘My Hands’. Outside of the Running Touch project, the Melbourne act is a key member and founder of Ocean Grove. The indie-pop-rock realm that Ocean Grove resides in has elapsed into ‘Signs’, resulting in a fun filled fusion of genres.

With an album on the way, Running Touch is definitely going to be dropping a few top notch records in the future.
