Words by Luke Byatt
Welcome to the first Future Focus of 2021; an editorial series providing a personable glimpse into some of best music releasing in the scene. Future Focus 040 features the diverse and vibrant sounds of Tilly Valentine, Shadi G, adrobski, and Polish Club x Northeast Party House.
Tilly Valentine - Calendar Girl
English artist and long time favourite of Futuremag Music, Tilly Valentine introduces us to the new year with ‘Calendar Girl’.
‘Calendar Girl’ is a lavish listening affair, aligning with Tilly Valentine’s sensational songwriting and crisp Pop appeal. Opening with a melancholy piano arrangement, the single layers in a superb vocal performance before a concoction of instrumentation takes hold. This development in the production mirrors the growth and story telling imbued in the tracks lyrics. Tilly Valentine is a masterful artist with a clear creative concept and an expert execution of that vision to match.
With 2021 upon us, I’m eager to hear what’s to come for Tilly Valentine.
Shadi G - The Wound is the Place Where the Light Enters You
Returning in 2021 is Shadi G and her brand new single ‘The Wound Is The Place Where The Light Enters You’.
Despite the record’s lengthy name, ‘TWITPWTLEY’ is Alt Pop gold! From the non-traditional structural style and swooning soundscape, Shadi G has created something truely unique. Delving into the lyrics, ‘TWITPWTLEY’ follows a three act structure, exploring the painful yet inevitable self improvement that stems from a failing relationship. Within each verse, Shadi G captures each stage in vivid detail as ‘TWITPWTLEY’s narrator guides the listener through affliction into liberation.
Shadi G had a tremendous 2020, and it’s looking like 2021 is set to follow the same trajectory.
Adrobski - Breathe
Hailing from France, Adrobski is positioning himself as the future of Vapour Twitch with the release of ‘Breathe’.
‘Breathe’ holds the forward thinking sonic aesthetic the genre, while also retaining a sense of emotional semblance. This balanced approach generates a soundscape that is equally complex in flavour as it is approachable in appearance. Familiar tonal values are present throughout ‘Breathe’ allowing the record to remain sonically affable, while the propulsive progression drives the experimentation. Adrobski is masterful in his execution, aligning himself with the likes of Futuremag Music favourites; Quiet Bison, Tek Genesis and world wide sensation, Flume.
It’s safe to say Adrobski is only getting started, and I’m eager to hear what’s to come.
Polish Club - Just Talking (Northeast Party House Remix)
Rocker boys, Polish Club single ‘Just Talking’ received the remix treatment from edgy electronic band, Northeast Party House.
Northeast Party House have completely transformed ‘Just Talking’ from a classic rock record into a lofty house track. Suitable for a serene Sunday session or the dance floor in the early hours of the morning, the remix exudes a melodic charm that flows uninhibited. Although ‘Just Talking’ has been transformed into an A-grade dance record, the aura of the original is present, marrying the genres in divine sacrament.
Are there more remixes on the way? I’m not sure, but I definitely want some more!
