Future Focus 046: PNK FME, Dyzphoria x Yedgar, YUJIN, Comakid
By Luke Byatt
Welcome to Future Focus, an editorial series providing a personable glimpse into some of best music releasing in the scene. Future Focus 046 features the diverse and vibrant sounds of PNK FME, Dyzphoria x Yedgar, YUJIN, and Comakid.
PNK FME - Forsaken
Adelaide’s PNK FME is arguably one of the most under rated producers, vocalists and songwriters in Australia at the moment. The release of ‘Forsaken’, his first single of 2021, is a masterclass in Alt Pop and Electronic.
On the surface, ‘Forsaken’ flaunts an attitude rich aesthetic that draws parallels to Post Malone, The Kid Laroi and other prominent Hip Hop artists. Although by digging deeper the single explores the rich nuances of the human condition via the vessel of Alt Pop. This multifaceted and mildly confusing genre cross over reflects the essence of PNK FME; he refuses to be pigeonholed and always subverts expectations. ‘Forsaken’ is an entirely unique entity, reflecting elements of various artists and styles, but at the same time there is nothing that can conform to its distinct sound design.
PNK FME is an artist who’ll stop at nothing to share his vision, and I can’t wait to hear what’s to come.
Dyzphoria x Yedgar - No More
Wave barons, Dyzphoria and Yedgar return with ‘No More’ via the scene’s leading label, Liquid Ritual.
Yedgar and Dyzphoria’s ‘No More’ is a boisterous Bass banger that oils the gears for the dance floor. The single morphs the lofty mosh ready aesthetic of Hardwave with the more emotive rich aspects of Wave's classic sound. This amalgamation of sub genre styles allows the single to sit neatly between sonics, acting as a bridge within a dynamic set. ‘No More’ is an a-grade example of Wave and there are no greater producers than Dyzphoria and Yedgar to exhibit this prowess.
I can’t wait to listen to more releases from the Liquid Ritual crew!
YUJIN - Elemental
YUJIN may be a name you recognise, formerly being half of Oriental Cravings; a project we extensively supported on Futuremag Music. ‘Elemental’ is the debut single from YUJIN since breaking out on his own.
'Elemental’ retains all the hallmarks of a sensational Trap release. The single holds a sense of familiarity for those familiar with YUJIN’s previous endeavours, while also progressing his sonic with fresh approaches. ‘Elemental’ holds a dark and chaotic composition, while also imbuing airy synths and organic aspects to round out the single’s bounds.
YUJIN’s solo premiere is a fine start for the project and I’m eager to hear what’s to come.
Comakid - May
London’s Comakid captures the beauty of the cities’ brutalist structures in ‘May’.
The rich and foreboding architecture of post World War Two London is a driving force behind 'May’. The stout structure of the percussion and bass adds volume to the record as the lush and vaporous synths float freely above. This juxtaposition perfectly reflects the brutalist architecture of UK estates; where fort like structures are deeply embedded into the cityscape while the sky above is limitless and unfettered. Comakid instills rich emotion into ‘May’, shining a glimmer of hope and autonomy from the oppressive forces that surround us.
Comakid is a wonderful artist with a wealth of releases ahead of him.
