Over the last few years, the success of super-producer Flume has propelled Australia’s electronic scene into the global spotlight. Armed with familiar shimmering synthesisers and unique Future Bass flair, Brisbane producer Hier is now set to turn plenty of heads and get shapes flyin’ with his latest single and catalogue of remixes. This legend has been a friend of Futuremag Music since day one, and we always love having a chat with him, here's a glimpse into our latest gabber.

Futuremag Music: G'day mate, how’s things been? As always, myself and the crew here at Futuremag Music love all your work! For those who don't know you, how did you initially move into music?

Hier: Hey Luke, I've been great thanks! I have had a passion for music for as long as I can remember. I first learnt how to play guitar when I was about 10 and since then forgotten almost all of it haha. But if there is any type of instrument near me, I can’t not try and play it. It feels really good to now be creating entire songs and have so much support on them!

 Futuremag Music: What are your main inspirations when creating a song?

Hier: Well I will usually start with the chords as I believe they are the most important part of a song (unless it has no chords), but it really depends on how I’m feeling. Like some days I just want to make a really nice beat you know? I don’t think there is an ‘ideal’ song, but I believe a really good mix-down can be the difference between rubbish and amazing.

Futuremag Music:  Almost everyone has a "go to" piece of gear, do you have a favourite piece?

Hier: I definitely use my keyboard more than anything, and it would be awesome to use it live further down the track when start incorporating live music into my shows! I also just pulled out a turntable last night and made a nice beat from an old vinyl sample so I’d like to do more of that.

 Futuremag Music: The world is really starting to hear your talent and taking note. How did ‘Turn Around’ come about?

Hier: I really just wanted to make something happy and simple so I started by making chords and the bouncy lead melody, I couldn’t stop tapping my feet while I was listening to it! The track is quite minimal but I wanted the happy emotion of the track to be the main focus and with the vocals on top I think it does a pretty good job of that. To be honest I usually end up liking my outros the most hahaha.. I try to make them a really nice relaxing comedown.

Futuremag Music: What’s your plan for the next 12 month?

Hier: I have a bunch of original tracks to release including a few collabs and hopefully an EP in the next 12 months. Other than that I’ll just be doing as many gigs as I can!
