LALKA Interview - Energetic and High Impact

We had a chat to Brissy pop star LALKA ahead of her feature performance at Mountain Goat Valley Crawl this weekend! We delved into LALKA’s production and visual aesthetic, formulation of her live show, and Mountain Goat Valley Crawl.

Futuremag Music: How’s life treating you?

LALKA: It’s been busy, I’ve been writing heaps and preparing for shows.

Futuremag Music: Can you talk us through your writing and production process and how that ties into your visual aesthetic?

LALKA: The writing process is always different for each track. Every track starts in Ableton or Logic as an abstract idea of how I want the song to pan out. From there I work towards that idea and know what I want, it’s more working out the process of getting to the finished product. With the visuals, they come after I finish a song. Different images and visuals will come to me that suits the track.

Futuremag Music: Can you talk us through the process of using both Logic and Ableton?

LALKA: I started off in Logic, and then learnt Ableton two or three years ago. I use them for different things, I switch back and forth depending on what I’m doing. I have the track drafted in Ableton and I do some tricks in logic to speed up my work flow. It’s not as complicated as it sounds.

Futuremag Music: What do you use for your live shows?

LALKA: A lot of my tracks are run through Ableton. I also use Mainstage which is the live performance version of logic. Mainstage is used for the live elements, whereas Ableton deals with the looping and tracking beats. I use both at the same time, and it seems to work out okay.

Futuremag Music: Continuing talking about live shows, what can we expect from your performance at Mountain Goat Valley Crawl?

LALKA: For Mountain Goat Valley Crawl, I’ll be bringing my instruments along and all my gear. My shows are always energetic, and high impact. Everyone can see my full set up and performance.

Futuremag Music: Who are you keen to see at Mountain Goat Valley Crawl?

LALKA: I was looking at the line up today, and I haven’t seen too many of the bands. It’s going to be exciting seeing all these acts I haven’t seen before. I’m going to be running like mad around the valley seeing everyone.

Futuremag Music: Awesome, we’ll see you there!

LALKA: See you Saturday.
