LÂLKA - Cursed Crown 2.0 (Feat. Death Club 7)
Words by Sean Tayler
LÂLKA is one of our treasured alt-pop darlings, so it should come as no surprise that her collaboration with Brisbane local, Death Club 7 is one of my favourite new singles!
‘Cursed Crown 2.0’ is a rework of Death Club 7’s ‘Cursed Crown’ from his Fata Morgana LP. LÂLKA and Death Club 7’s similar style of experimental alt-pop shines through ‘Cursed Crown 2.0’s vivacious vista. Their shared creativity has allowed LÂLKA to flip ‘Cursed Crown’ from a dark indulgence into a luxurious bubblegum bass gem. LÂLKA has cemented her unique and weird pop stylings throughout the lively single. Throughout ‘Cursed Crown 2.0’, LÂLKA flourishes with off-kilter synths that retain the ambiguity of the original ‘Cursed Crown’, while delivering lyrics originally hidden by distortion.
LÂLKA channels dark-pop musings into her sweet and searing rework of ‘Cursed Crown 2.0’.
