Nicole Millar - No Bad Vibes

On Saturday night, Nicole Millar’s Excuse Me tour passed through Brisbane for two shows at the Foundry. I was eager to attend after reviewing and thoroughly enjoying her debut album. Nicole Millar, Oh Boy and Sophiegrophy delivered an amazing show, revealed through three powerful sets.

Oh Boy, a bubblegum pop producer from Sydney opened the night with refreshing sugary sweet beats. His collabs with Mallrat, Donatachi, Sam Bluer and imbi the girl are some of my favourite Australian pop songs of recent and hearing them live was exactly the party starter that I needed. Oh Boy also treated us to some unreleased music, collaborations with Ninajirachi and Cult Shφtta. Both of these tracks were fierce and fun! After delivering an incredibly exciting live set, it's clear why Oh Boy is one of Australia’s breaking beat makers, and producers.

From Melbourne, hip hop queen Sophiegrophy delivered a tight, energetic set. She presented an intense stage presence and crafted together a powerful show. After seeing her live show, I’ll be sure to check out her releases.

By the time Nicole Millar came out, a massive crowd had gathered around the Foundry’s stage and it was obvious that everyone was excited to see the pop star live. After being cheered on stage, she opened with two of her most popular songs ‘Signals’ and ‘Gimme a Break’. Nicole Millar channelled a soulful voice and was incredibly energetic in her live rendition of these songs. Her crisp, feel good pop continued with ‘Buttons’, an electrifying pop song about getting rid of negativity which led perfectly into her best EP track not to make her debut album, ‘No Bad Vibes’. With lush vocals and an intense tropical beat reminiscent of Crooked Colours, ‘No Bad Vibes’ sent the crowd wild. Nicole Millar closed with ‘Tremble’, a bold, glittery tune with mesmerising production, before deciding to also perform ‘High’ her breakthrough collaborative hit with Peking Duk.

Oh Boy, Sophiegrophy and Nicole Millar delivered commanding sets that showcased the mesmerising power of live electropop.
