OKBADLANDS Interview - Expressing Vulnerabilities

Meet Brissy duo OKBADLANDS (Kate Gurren and Sally Latter), who've just released five sensational tracks, as part of their Tiny Measures EP. The pair have uncanny knack of creating emotionally rich soundscapes, and diverse production.
We had a chat to Kate and Sally about the production process of Tiny Measures EP, their music in general and of course cocktails!
Futuremag Music: How'd you guys meet? What was has been your relationship with music been like over the years?
OKBADLANDS: We met at church through friends and thought it would be fun to start jamming and writing together. We were in love with different aspects of music, which worked quite well when we came together as OKB. Over the years we've shaped each other's musical interests and we've grown from it tremendously.
Futuremag Music: Can you please talk us through your collaborations throughout the EP?
OKBADLANDS: We had written with Max (Golden Vessel) prior to this EP. We featured on some of his tracks, and realised that we worked really well together. He help produce 4/5 tracks on the EP. For the last track we wrote we had GXNXVS do some production. He brought a lot of mystery to the track and we really enjoyed working with him.
Futuremag Music: Are there any particular themes expressed throughout your EP Tiny Measures?
OKBADLANDS: Tiny Measures expresses a lot of our vulnerabilities. I think the goal for the entire EP was to make sure nothing was disingenuous - not the melodies, not the instrumentation and especially not the lyrics. One track talks about anxiety, another talks about being on the other end and feeling helpless while your friends or family suffer from anxiety.
Futuremag Music: What track did you enjoy working on the most for Tiny Measures and why?
OKBADLANDS: Pty ltd for sure! It fell into place so quickly. It's a little bit sassy and it brings about a message of hope, which is what I like to imagine OKBADLANDS while aesthetic is.
Futuremag Music: If you could make a cocktail called "OKBADLANDS", what would you put into it to best describe yourselves and your music?
OKBADLANDS: Bit of Aretha Franklin's soul, splash of Nick Hakim's melancholy, shaken in a Hiatus Kaiyote shaker, served in glass with Solange's face on it.
