Queensland Music Awards - Celebrating Excellence

The Queensland Music Awards celebrated at the Royal International Convention Centre, wrapped up with outstanding success. Each and every impressive category showcased Queensland’s remarkable talent, honoured by commendable awards. Performances by William Barton, Amy Shark , Bobby Alu, Tokyo Twilight, DZ Deathrays, Ebony Beau, Clea, and Resin Dogs enchanted the crowd, as each set pulled from the music community’s diverse soundscapes.

As an electronic music publication we’ll be highlighting the genre’s standouts from the Queensland Music Awards.

Queensland’s talent pool and next generation of international exports were on full display in the schools category. Nominees included Fleet Street, Marco, Tokyo Twilight and We Build Spaceships. Each of these shining young guns have incredible careers ahead of them. Up and coming and talented Brissy producer, Tokyo Twilight took out the prize with his track ‘Little Things’ featuring DVNA. Tokyo Twilight’s vibrant performance featuring DVNA surged through the convention centre’s sound system elevating the atmosphere. The artist’s enthusiasm, attention to detail, focus and commitment is apparent in everything he does and I can’t wait to see him explode!

The electronic and dance category contained some of Queensland’s heavyweights, with Holiday Party, Machine Age, The Kite String Tangle, and Young Franco, all featuring on the finalist list. With a diverse array of sonics, each of these acts have secured a niche in the electronic music scene. Taking out the award was Brisbane royalty, The Kite String Tangle. With only a few words spoken, the musician’s humble and down to earth nature was fully apparent as he accepted his award.

For the people’s choice awards, the night transitioned away from musicians to include venues and festivals. Gold Coast’s NightQuarter took out the award for regional venue of the year, while The Triffid in Brisbane secured the award for metro venue of the year. Joining NightQuarter and The Triffid on the winners list was Big Pineapple Music Festival, that won festival of the year. Every venue and festival in Queensland plays an extraordinary role in developing ground roots artists and supporting established talent.

Overall, the Queensland Music Awards was a celebration of excellence and a perfect opportunity for the industry and avid supporters to gather in jubilant surroundings. I can’t wait to see what next year has to offer, as the radiant Queensland music community continues to flourish.
