SAFIA - Starlight

The latest release from electro-pop outfit SAFIA, ‘Starlight’ marks a powerful change in direction for the Canberra trio.

On ‘Starlight’, SAFIA swap a well-known swagger and groove for a set of more driven and brooding rhythms. Following this year’s earlier funk-flavoured ‘Freakin’ Out’, the group now delivers a release both spacious and dark. ‘Starlight’ plays on the synth-pop sounds of the 80’s, while seamlessly invoking forward-thinking production and harmonic tensions. The single builds to a chorus reminiscent of the electronic styles of Daft Punk and THE WEEKND. For a song that ruminates on the pains of letting go, an abrupt end seems clever. A sharp wake-up call from its trance-like groove seems to pose the question, “What next?” I’m excited to find out.

SAFIA are set for a shining tour throughout November. You can grab your tickets, HERE.
