Touch Sensitive Interview - Pineapples and The Sun

We caught up with funk and electonica legend, Touch Sensitive ahead of his performance at Big Pineapple on the 25th of May. We spoke about his progression through the music scene, the release of ‘Unconditional’, and the Big Pineapple show.

Futuremag Music: Hey Touch Sensitive, what’s good?

Touch Sensitive: I’m good, thanks for asking! To be more specific to what’s good, the Din Thai Fung in Glendale and my Moog Grandmother

Futuremag Music: Could you talk us through your progression through the scene? How did you get to where you are now?

Touch Sensitive: Hmm I started out playing in cover bands and then built a studio with some friends and went nuts collecting gear and records, got into electronic stuff then played keyboards in a group for a while but still did bass stuff and that’s kind of the short of it, I’ve thought many times shit I need to get a real job and broke but then the phones rings and I’m back in but realistically now I’m too far along to change although it is my dream to stand around and drink coffee all day with my friends so maybe I should invest in a machine.

Futuremag Music: Congratulations on the release of ‘Unconditional’, it’s a groover! How did you loop up with Kitten? What was the collaborative writing process like?

Touch Sensitive: Theo from Future Classic hooked it up, we’d never met before and right away we got along so it came together easily, Chloe kinda drove the direction of that, she was like “let’s do something like this” so we did, I tried.....

Futuremag Music: How do you translate your studio recordings into a live setting?

Touch Sensitive: Depends it’s different for every song, some songs suck live and other unexpected ones are fun so it’s always changing, but more and more as time goes on I’m off the backing tracks, if you have musicians that can play let them play but the other side to that is when you’re in between a DJ that’s playing bangers and then a live band comes on, sometimes you miss the bells and whistles but maybe that’s just me, it’s always a work in progress.

Futuremag Music: What’s your favourite part of the Sunshine State? What are you looking forward to about Big Pineapple Festival/ who are you keen to see?

Touch Sensitive: Pineapples, bananas and the sun, I just checked out the lineup and realised all my friends are playing so everyone.

Futuremag Music: A controversial one, does pineapple belong on pizza?

Touch Sensitive: I could argue that there’s no rules when it comes to food like that calamari is a seafood donut but I’m not adverse to it, my Italian friends would scoff but my dad doesn’t have a problem with it and he’s an Italian so meh, if you like it do it.
