Vlossom - Flourishing Sydney Talent

Words by Justin Pix

Colourful Sydney outfit Vlossom, a collaboration between Aussie legends Nick Littlemore (Empire of the Sun & PNAU) and Alister Wright (Cloud Control), have recently stormed into the music scene with their electrifying sonic. We caught Vlossom at The Lansdowne on the 23rd of January as part of their 4 week residency.

Opening the night was Skeleten, a new side project from Sydney visual artist Russell Fit. The set saw airy synths, dreamy guitar riffs and emotionally filled vocals meld together in seamless fashion. Through actively fusing elements of indie and psychedelic pop a unique aura was created. Skeleten showcased superlative singles, which captured punters attention, showing that they’re a force to be reckoned with in 2020.

Following suit, Vlossom dawned on The Lansdowne’s downstairs stage. Their set blended the worlds of analogue and electronica into a beautiful euphoric mix which propagated a lush atmosphere. Performing their vibrant sophomore release ‘Tabs’, the band sent the audience into a dancing fury. Their live performance also invited the audience on a journey of their upcoming singles. One of their forthcoming releases, ‘Missing You’, morphed cathartic lyrics over an energetic beat containing smooth gated synths. Other songs brought the audience into a sprightly harmony, grooving to instrumentals reminiscent of 70/80s pop and smooth R&B. Vlossom then closed the set with their debut hit single ‘Catch Your Breath’ which climaxed an elating night.

The Lansdowne set the stage for new Sydney talent to flourish. Skeleten and Vlossom have both displayed a vibrant introduction into their artistry, rendering anyone to have serious FOMO if they didn’t catch them at the residency.
