Yorke - A Graceful Presence
2019 has been an explosive year for Byron Bay pop sensation, Yorke. With three catchy hit singles under her belt, including her newest release, ‘Thought I Could’, Yorke took to the road for her first headline tour. I headed along to her sold out Sydney show at Oxford Art Factory on Thursday, August 8.
First up was powerhouse vocalist, Eleanor Jacks. From the get go, she warmed the gradually growing crowd with her tender, yet commanding vocal performance. The set garnered a gradual pace, which lulled the audience into a sense of euphony. As piano and guitar duets flourished, Eleanor Jacks and her band mate, showcased original tracks such as ‘Run and Hide’, ‘I’m Drunk and I Love you’ and her most recent single ‘Blue’. I can say with confidence after seeing this aspiring artist that she’s well worth keeping an eye on.
Following on from Eleanor Jack’s soothing introduction was Yorke and her debut headline set. The room buzzed with anticipation, as punters prepared for the budding star to dawn the stage. Throughout the intimate halls of Oxford Art Factory’s Gallery Bar, a visceral sensation diffused as Yorke bled her heart out to the audience with her delicate vocals and her graceful presence. Yorke’s heartfelt vocals were amplified as she performed along singer-songwriter, Andy Hopkins on an unreleased track. Among the concoction of original and unreleased songs, Yorke also covered ‘Summertime Sadness’ by Lana Del Ray. Yorke’s alluring vocal arrangement provided a refreshing take on the renown track. Yorke also performed ‘Wake The City’, and ‘First Light’, where luscious lyrics captured onlooker’s heart. Closing out her phenomenal first headline show, Yorke perfectly translated ‘Thought I Could’ into a live setting.
All in all, this night has seen two talents who are quickly on the ascent in the Australian music scene. Be sure to not miss these two when either one is playing in your city next! Yorke will be finishing her headline tour in Melbourne on the 15th of August and Eleanor Jacks will be supporting Amy shark on her regional tour starting in October.
