Futuremag Music: How'd you move into production?

Zaped: When I was around 16 years old I started learning about mixing/ production through high school on Pro Tools. It was pretty basic stuff, but it opened the door for me to start pursuing more production based music. Soon after I purchased Logic Pro and started honing my production skills every day.

Futuremag Music: What quirks and secrets go into producing and writing a track like 'Push' or 'Spatial Impression'?

Zaped: For ‘Push’, it was coming up with melodies and lyrics that felt right for the track. The instrumental was written first, so I wanted to make sure my lyrics/ melody enhanced the darker tones and chord progression, creating a unique overall tone. Spatial Impression just fell into place once I recorded the main synth and layered some record crackling samples underneath it, to really give it that extra pop. Adding little random samples behind the main instrumentation creates almost a new sound entirely. So it’s those little quirks I like to experiment with that can sometimes (not always) turn into something unique and special.

Futuremag Music: What can we expect from your live performance at Mountain Goat Valley Crawl?

Zaped: Lots of groove and rhythm. I tend to get pretty into my live sets, so if you feel like having a dance  you should come check it out. No pressure, but some pressure.

Futuremag Music: Who are you keen on seeing at Mountain Goat Valley Crawl?

Zaped: Hatchie, Philadelphia Grand Jury & Austen.

Futuremag Music: If 'Zaped' was a cocktail what would be in it to best describe yourself and your music?

Zaped: It would be a Bloody Zapedy for sure. It’s got tang, zest, a bit of a kick and a whole lot of gusto.
