CREATIVE CONVERSATIONS 061: ELISHIA EMBRACES BEING SOLO

Words by Brooklyn Gibbs.

Sydney based artist, Elishia, embraces independence and self-worth in her latest single, SOLO. You can expect to hear heavy-hitting bass lines, and strong vocals and lyrics full of heart and attitude, with a side of sass.

After independently releasing her debut single in 2020, which hit over 450,000 streams, this sassy pop queen is making a strong comeback with this release.

Futuremag Music caught up with Elishia to talk about all things SOLO.

Get up and dance to this killer track!

FMM: Your new single, SOLO, was just released! Congratulations! How does it feel to release this song?

Elishia: I am so excited to have finally released this song! I feel like I have been holding onto it for a while now because I love it so much! I guess that sort of thing happens when us artists just want the best for our song and the release, but I feel so ready to release it into the world now.

FMM: How are you celebrating the release?

Elishia: To be honest, I probably will be driving around town with my roof down in the car listening to it on repeat.

FMM: What inspired this release?

Elishia: Although it is almost half way through 2022, with it being the new year, being out of lockdowns and back into performing live, it has all inspired me to continue with my releases and actually put the songs I have been working on for so long, out into the world! I think a lot of being during lockdown realised what meant a lot to them and now are focusing on actually doing those things.

FMM: SOLO is a celebration of self-confidence, independence and feeling good within yourself. What do these things mean to you and how do you achieve them?

Elishia: I think as I have gotten older, I have learnt the art of really not worrying too much about what people think of me. If something makes me feel good, I am gonna do it! Life is too short to be tip-toeing around everything and everyone else’s ideas of what’s right, so it’s best to act on your self confidence and independence and live your life!

FMM: I’m absolutely digging this track! The beat is just groovy and you can’t stop yourself from dancing to it. The beat and lyrics compliment each other to deliver the perfect combination of sass! Could you please walk me through your production process for this release?

Elishia: This track really wouldn’t be what it is without the amazing Cyrus Villaneavu on production. Coming from a dance background myself, I always wanted to finish up a songwriting session with a song that makes me want to dance. Whether we are writing about something deep and emotional, or something like SOLO, with a bit more sass, I love incorporating strong, rhythmic elements into the production. I think Cyrus really nailed that!

FMM: On the topic of the beat, I’ve seen on TikTok that you’re quire the dancer! Can we expect a music video for SOLO , or a new killer TikTok dance trend?

Elishia: (Laughs). Yes, coming from a dance background, I can’t help but always be dancing! You’ll definitely have to keep your eyes peeled for any signs of a music video.

FMM: I’m amazed that this track was only created in a day! How did you pull that off and how did you know when you were happy with the final sound?

Elishia: Let’s be real. I could go on and on and on about things I could potentially add or remove or from the track, but there comes a point where we need to decide when the song is ready! We had finished the track in the studio and I think we all just knew that it was something special. It just worked so well as a whole. Sometimes you just have a feeling.

FMM: You worked with Cyrus Villaneavu and Dom Youdan for this release. How did you know they were the perfect fit for how you envisioned SOLO?

Elishia: I had organised a session with Cyrus and he was the one who had actually invited Dom Youdan to our session. I hadn’t worked with Dom before, but I really am the type of person who loves to collaborate. I always think having a room filled with different people, is going to produce a track, or even just ideas, that may not have happened with just the artist and producer. I’m so glad the three of us ended up in the room because we ended up with a fiery track at the end of it all.

FMM: What message do you hope people take away from SOLO?

Elishia: I want SOLO to be a reminder of your independence, self-worth, and power - knowing that it is okay for you to feel good and flaunt it!

FMM: What’s next for you?

Elishia: You can expect a whole line of releases for this year, which I am so excited about! More sassy, dark pop-inspired tracks, music videos and live shows!
