EXTENDED PLAY 057: NEW MUSIC OF THE WEEK- February 5-11

It’s the weekend and we’re coming to you with our picks of the bunch from the latest releases by Aussie artists in the last week!

Each week Futuremag chooses its favourite new music and adds it to the playlist FMM Faves 2024.

Kate Gill - ‘Friends’

TikTok star Kate Gill is already a seasoned songwriter just in her early 20s, having seen the rapid success of her two singles ‘barbie&ken’ and ‘ken&barbie’ in 2021.

Her new track ‘friends’ is as compelling and sincere as it is catchy, a pop song full of heart about toxic friendships you need to leave behind.

Jem Cassar-Daley - ‘Space Between’

While she may have initially known as the daughter of country artist Troy Cassar-Daley, Jem has well and truly emerged from any potential shadow with her latest release evident of her immense talent.

‘Space Between’ is a beautiful and vulnerable song as she sings about things being turbulent and unsettled with someone, but not wanting to come down and face the reality of an ending relationship.

LASHES - ‘Hollow’

One of the catchiest tunes to grace our ears so far in 2024, LASHES’ ‘Hollow’ is a hyperpop-driven exploration into new beginnings.

The bouncy track is aiming to capitalise on the recent success of two singles - ‘Make Your Move’ and ‘Call Me When You Land’ which were released in October and November, respectively.

Stacey Ann - ‘Ripples’

A high-spirited single is just what people need this time of year in the early weeks when everyone is still recovering from holiday mode.

Stacey Ann has produced just that with a super joyful song inspired by the positive impact of surrounding oneself with supportive, uplifting friends and how nurturing those loving and unconditional friendships is so important.

RARIA - ‘Too Pretty To Be Sad’

RARIA has followed up the success of her viral track ‘This Generation Sucks’ with another catchy pop tune.

'Too Pretty to Be Sad' signals a new direction for RARIA, combining her signature heartbreak pop, with more dance elements and scream-out-loud moments on the dance floor.

Lucinda Poy - ‘Just Fine’

Perth-based Indie artist Lucinda Poy has released her debut single with a bang, a track that is about being let down by people but pushing through that adversity to keep trekking forward.

On the track itself, Poy said: "'Just Fine' is about piecing yourself together after facing challenges. People I've depended on have left without warning, built up my hopes too high... and I was crushed, so I had great material to work with! I wanted to reassure the listener that it would all be okay, that the facade of being 'Just Fine' would eventually turn true. "
