EXTENDED PLAY 066: NEW MUSIC OF THE WEEK
Futuremag runs you through its favourite new releases of the week.
Darcy Lane - Aloe Vera
This release follows Lane’s single Chocolate which dropped late last year. Aloe Vera serves as a metaphor for the insufficiency of temporary fixes in healing emotional wounds.
Oliver Cronin - Burning House
Taken from his soon to-be announced debut album, Burning House follows a huge year for Cronin. He was also nominated for Best New Artist at the Rolling Stone Awards earlier this year.
Ruel & DMA’S - We’re A Pair of Diamonds
The second of two songs recorded by these two dropped last week. Fans were given an early performance of the track at a DMA’S gig in October last year and the fully recorded version was well worth the wait.
Becca Hatch - Think Of You
Becca Hatch’s new track is a bouncy bop that features a mix of hyperpop, jersey club and dance sounds. Hatch is set to open for Mahalia on her upcoming Australian tour.
Somber Hills - Not There
Alt-rock newcomer Somber Hills has unveiled his first single of the year. The energetic song delves into his journey of chasing dreams on the road and exploring themes of self-discovery.
Donatachi, Muki - Bad Dream
Sydney DJ Donatachi linked up with ARIA-nominated Muki, for their first release of the year. The electronic-fuelled track is hypnotic and pays homage to the 90s dancefloor anthems.
Ocean Sleeper, LiL Lotus - Lonely Love
Heavy band Ocean Sleeper’s stock continues to rise with their latest single, which features US artist LiL Lotus. The background vocals in this alt-rock track particularly stand out and the crescendo makes it an ultimate singalong.
OMRA - Weightless
Brisbane artist OMRA enters an intergalactic dreamscape in this new indie-pop single. OMRA’s dreamlike vocals suit the atmosphere created by the meditative guitar parts that shimmer and echo.
Chelsea Berman - Obsessed
Country artist Chelsea Berman has made the bold move into the pop arena with her new single. Obsessed is Berman’s first foray into the genre, signalling an exciting new chapter with a catchy release.
Big Orange - This Won’t Hurt A Bit
WA band Big Orange have teased their upcoming album with this breathtaking new single. With the energy of a rock song, but sensitivities of a pop song, This Won’t Hurt A Bit takes you into another dimension with its sonic scape and thought-provoking lyrics.
Sakr - All I Am
Sakr’s latest single follows the releases of Everywhere and Nowhere, and Cruel, as his debut EP Structures is set to come out in less than three weeks. All I Am is overflowing with emotional vulnerability and a song that will leave you in deep reflection.
Blake Dantier, Andrew Swift - Pool Party For One
Blake Dantier and Andrew Swift’s collaboration is the exact vibe you would expect from the title. It’s an optimistic celebration of self-love in the wake of a love gone wrong.
