Words by Luke Byatt

Welcome to Future Focus, an editorial series providing a personable glimpse into some of best music releasing in the scene. Future Focus 050 features the diverse and vibrant sounds of jas., Matveï x warner case, Strict Face and Yujin.

jas. - Wish You Well

Melbourne’s jas. makes an impressive debut with the release of ‘Wish You Well’.

‘Wish You Well’ is a divine example of emotion rich electro pop. Produced by YAAK, the single swells with vivacious vocals that rebound throughout the colossal soundscape. Although ‘Wish You Well’ leans towards a more stripped back approach, there’s limitless depth to the record. This philosophy highlights jas.' incredible storytelling ability, as she guides listeners on a visceral journey.

With a debut done, I can’t wait to hear what’s to come from jas.

Matveï - REGRESO (warner case Remix)

If you follow my personal socials you’d be familiar with my fandom of New York producer, warner case. Now the US native has taken on remix duties of ‘Regreso’ from Paris-based artist. Matveï.

There’s no other way to explain the ‘Regreso’ remix besides it being a top tier house record. On that note, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve busted out my “Wacky Waving Inflatable Tube Guy” dance (Watch Futuremag Music’s Reels/TikTok and you’ll know what I mean), with warner case’s ‘Regreso’ remix oiling my joints for it to occur. Jokes aside, I adore this remix and the vibrancy that warner case and Matvei inject into all of their music.

I’m seriously excited to hear what’s to come from warner case and Matvei for the rest of 2021 and into the new year.

I simply re-contextualised the beauty that was already there to bring a whole new energy and feeling; listen closely to the original and you’ll hear my remix. it works as a symbol of optimism: you choose how to see your world.

Strict Face - Tasteflash

Adelaide’s Strict Face has been leading the charge with forward thinking electronica for some time now. The release of ‘Tasteflash’ on NLV Records is a testament to his vanguard status.

‘Tasteflash’ is abrasive yet buoyant in a spectacular display of alternative club and rave music. There’s something seriously special when it comes to artists like Strict Face. Their leadership in championing a new sonic and striving for advancement in dance music is commendable; with their fundamental groundwork gradually filtering into more accessible genres. I highly recommend listening to ‘Tasteflash’ and all of Strict Face’s catalogue as he prepares to drop his forthcoming EP, Pulsers.

The idea for ‘Tasteflash’ came about in the latter half of 2020 when I’d been working on an influx of ideas, despite not having a platform to test them out on at the time due to COVID. Making this track (and the EP as a whole) reinforced the overall mission I’ve set out to achieve since I started producing – to make the music I’d want to hear in a club. No fancy concept about it – just let your legs stretch out and wander.

Yujin - Realms (Feat. Saint Barae)

Yujin returns with ‘Realms’ a wonderful follow up to his debut release of ‘Elemental’.

‘Realms’ is a slight shift in sound from Yujin’s earlier release, opting for more of a vocal lead record courtesy of Saint Barae. From shimmering synths to propulsive percussion, the single is another a-grade dance record from the Perth creative. With ‘Elemental’ and ‘Realms’ under his belt, Yujin has a solid foundation to develop upon.

I’m eager to hear what’s to come!
