Future Focus 051: Ivoryghost, warner case, GANZ x Nicole Millar, YAAK X Z. LEWIS, Beso Palma

Words by Luke Byatt

Welcome to Future Focus, an editorial series providing a personable glimpse into some of best music releasing in the scene. Future Focus 051 features the diverse and vibrant sounds of Ivoryghost, warner case, GANZ x Nicole Millar, YAAK x Z. Lewis, and Beso Palma.

Ivoryghost - Our Love

One of Wave’s promising acts, Ivoryghost has returned with the release of ‘Our Love’.

‘Our Love’ encompasses the euphoria that Wave is known for, while also injecting absurd amounts of boisterous bass. The Riddim rich production, lays the foundation for Ivoryghost to augment Wave’s bounds into a new avenue. A dark echo-infused vocal delivers a juxtaposing effect to the established soundscape; instilling a sense of restraint to an unhinged record.

I love Ivoryghost’s sound, and I can’t wait to hear what else he has in the works.

warner case - feel it yah

House’s most wholesome producer and DJ, warner case is back with ‘feel it yah’.

Looking for the light in life is something that warner case holds close to his heart. ‘feel it yah’ is another example; with previous releases ‘summer on the inside’, ‘stop’, and many more in his catalogue laying the foundation of this sentiment. The swooning production creates a fertile bed for warner case's vocals to grow from. The propagation of positiveness is something I adore in dance music. At times the “feel good” atmosphere can be perceived as a “virtue signal”, but warner case’ genuine and personable approach bucks that notion. I highly recommend doing a deep dive into his socials to feel the gratitude to life (and also to see his cute cats).

warner case has cemented himself as one of my favourite artists.

‘feel it yah’ is basically “yolo” without the baggage. But I feel like yolo got a bad rap... contextually it’s really lame, but its actual meaning is pure and valuable: any one of us could die tomorrow, and as far as we know, we only have this one life, so we might as well live in the moment and do what we love. So go forth and feel it yah, my friends.

GANZ x Nicole Millar - Over Being Nice

GANZ is back with ‘Over Being Nice’; a mega collaboration with Aussie superstar, Nicole Millar.

In ‘Over Being Nice’, GANZ and Nicole Millar deliver a pristine Electro Pop record that oils the gears for the traditional Spring / Summer festival season. The record draws upon Vapour Twitch and Hyperpop to achieve its aesthetic. Sonically drawing comparisons to Charli XCX, Flume, SOPHIE, Kim Petras, and Rina Sawayama; ‘Over Being Nice’ morphs the traditional Pop sound into a somewhat experimental direction.

I adore this record and I can’t wait to hear what’s to come.

YAAK x Z. Lewis - 10MERITS

YAAK is back with ‘10MERITS’, a high energy Dance record spiked with intense Hip Hop lyricism courtesy of Z. Lewis.

‘10MERITS’ might be one of my favourite Dance cross Hip Hop hybrid releases in recent times. YAAK’s prowess as producer is on full display across the record’s three and a half minute duration. All the elements I adore from ‘Top Floor’, and ‘Above The Clouds’ are present in ‘10MERITS’, with the additional vocal performance form Z. Lewis elevating the release.

YAAK is certainly an artist to watch as her continues to evolve his sonic.

We’re both on our braggadocious shit… We’re onto something really unique here... there weren’t any other people who could’ve brought the record together the way we did. You hear that in the lyrics, and you hear it in the production. There’s a reason the name is in ALL CAPS!

Beso Palma - Memory (Feat. Mel Blue)

A recent release that crossed our radar is ‘Memory’ from Aussie Beso Palma featuring Mel Blue.

‘Memory’ morphs a grooving Garage production with an Indie R&B topline for an undisputed earworm. Beso Palma and Mel Blue’s collaboration draws parallels to Tora, Moglii or LEISURE, while also sprinkling in a touch of Wafia, Louis the Child and San Holo. With that many comparisons it may sound that ‘Memory’ is a copycat, but that couldn’t be as far from the truth; the record stands strong with its own identity.
