Future Focus 053: Emei, PNK FME, Kenaj, Adembo

By Luke Byatt

Welcome to Future Focus, an editorial series providing a personable glimpse into some of best music releasing in the scene. Future Focus 053 features the diverse and vibrant sounds of Emei, PNK FME, Kenaj, and Adembo.

Emei - Late To The Party

New York artist, Emei’s sophomore single ‘Late To The Party’ is a superb Alt Pop record.

‘Late To The Party’ is elegant, yet edgy in its delivery. From the stellar vocal displays to the analogue rich production bed, the single poses as a raw and personable Pop piece. This portrayal is actually a cleverly crafted veil sewn together with meaningful yet polished writing and meticulous production. There’s no denying that Emei has nailed the genre and is certainly challenging her contemporaries like Mia Rodriguez, REI AMI, Olivia Rodrigo, Madison Beer and more.

I’m enamoured with Emei, and I can’t wait to hear what’s to come!

PNK FME - Criminal

Adelaide producer and vocalist, PNK FME has released another heater, ‘Criminal’.

PNK FME has a knack of creating engrossing story telling with his raw and passionate lyricism and expert production. This can all be seen in bountiful quantities with ‘Criminal’, as the creative explores the brutal reality of living with ADHD and the stigma attached to it. With previous records like ‘Forsaken’ and his I’ve Never Been Me EP, PNK FME has forged a formidable foundation for his entirely unique Alt Hip Hop Electronic hybrid style. ‘Criminal’ is a fine addition to his catalogue of introspective and explorative releases.

All eyes are locked on PNK FME as he continues to impress.

Kenaj - Alive

Our faves over at Liquid Ritual have signed Kenaj’s ‘Alive’, another sensational record coming from the label.

Leaning towards a more downtempo UK Dubstep / Garage hybrid than a traditional Wave or Hardwave record, ‘Alive’ stands strong in its own identity. Through the melancholy soundscape flutters of hope present themselves; playing a line between a halcyon refuge and dejection. This dichotomy results in a thought provoking release that pushes the listener to explore the human condition and what it truely means to be “Alive”.

There’s a reason that Liquid Ritual are a trusted tastemaker, with ‘Alive’ being a testament to that.

Adembo - For The Night

Vapour Twitch is a genre that is extremely hard to master… With that in mind ‘For The Night’, the new release from Adembo is utterly perfect.

For a genre that holds heavy weight names such as Flume, What So Not, Quiet Bison and many more, Adembo has proven themself as a major contender with the release of ‘For The Night’. From the expertly crafted production bed to the visual presentation, the single flourishes in every regard. With all this praise, I would be negligent not to mention that the record induces goosebumps upon every listen. The strong cleansing nature of ‘For The Night’ is a wake up call to the power of Adembo’s production prowess.

Adembo might be a new artist on my radar, but they’re certainly one that I’ll be watching closely from now on.
