INTO THE MOSH 009: KODIVINE X VELIA, THE LUCKY BAT - DARWIN FRINGE FESTIVAL

Words by Brooklyn Gibbs.

Gig Review - Kodivine x Velia - The Lucky Bat, July 14

If you’re a fan of live music, The Lucky Bat was the place to be on July 14 during the Darwin Fringe Festival. Kodivine and Velia came together for an intimate, shared show with soul-soaking storytelling and banging bass lines.

Performing a mix of original songs and covers, Velia took to the stage first with her soft and beautiful vocals, with Kodivine supporting her on the keys.

Alice Springs musicians who made the trip up to Darwin for Fringe, joined Velia on stage to perform an original - a captivating song we also heard her perform solo at her Prickly Pear performance earlier in Fringe. Kodivine joined them on stage with supporting vocals.

The stage presence and artist connection shared between all the talented musicians on stage was something that definitely didn’t go unnoticed. The strong connection not only between those on stage, but also of those in the audience, really added that extra spark to the intimacy of the show.

Anastasia was brought to stage to support with saxophone, for a cover of Emily Muli’s Rhythm & Truth. I can tell you this now - the group definitely brought the rhythm to the show, as was as truth in their soul-soaking storytelling.

As someone who has been to a lot of live music venues and shows, I can honestly say this was by far my favourite. Nothing beats sitting down, enjoying some talented live music with your pals, while enjoying a good ole Lucky Bat pizza and beer. Life can’t get much better than that!

The captivating Velia ended her performance with her original, Welcome Stranger.

Kodivine returned to the stage with their signature keys and then moved over to stand up vocals with the band, plus Velia joining for backup vocals.

Kodivine performed crowd-favourite originals such as All The Way In.

Anastasia and her sax made made a re-appearance to support Kodivine in the second leg of the Lucky Bat show. If you saw Kodivine perform their original, Sagittariun Moon, at Prickly Pear and then again at Lucky Bat, you were in for a treat hearing the difference between the solo version as well as the full-band version.

Follow Kodivine and Velia on their socials to keep up with more soul-soaking shows! You don’t want to miss them!
