Let’s Eat Grandma - I’m All Ears LP
British electropop duo Let’s Eat Grandma boast a psychedelic, neon PC dream for their second studio album, I’m All Ears.
Opening tracks ‘Whitewater’ and ‘Hot Pink’ reach into the fuzzy, quirky lo-fi nature reminiscent of their debut album I, Gemini.
‘Hot Pink’ features production from SOPHIE and delivers an edgy, cinematic track combined with lyrics that reveal the internal struggle of the teenage duo’s critical acclaim.
‘It’s Not Just Me’, also produced by SOPHIE, glistens in sparkly synth-pop and nostalgic charm. ‘Falling Into Me’ collides dominating instrumentals with a whirring synth that thematically challenges misogyny - a theme present throughout I’m All Ears – as the duo sings “We got this/You and me”.
‘I Will Be Waiting’ provides an element of warmth in the middle of the album. It’s a powerful and melodic song that is one of the most relatable in the album, not only with its empowering lyrical quality, but with stunning electropop that challenges the mundanities opposed and embraced through I’m All Ears.
‘Cool & Collected’ has a slow, paced opening that transcends into a vulnerable, vocal focused piece reflecting the quieter side of the duo, yet with the same presentational intensity found on tracks with heavier production. Piano ballad ‘Ava’ showcases the versatility held by Let’s Eat Grandma, firmly placing their vocal talent in a pool swimming with the likes MØ and KUČKA.
‘Donnie Darko’ is the eleven minute final track and it’s clear that not a second is wasted by Let’s Eat Grandma as their spirited, vivacious electropop pans out across the ethereal closer. ‘Donnie Darko’ is one of the more buoyant and emotional tracks featured in I’m All Ears. The gorgeous eclectic production poises the duo as wise above their ages.
There’s no limit in the direction that Let’s Eat Grandma take from here, but one thing is for sure: it’s going to blow you away.
