EXTENDED PLAY 082: BOBBY UNCLE | MIMES MISS THE BEACH | TRACK-BY-TRACK

Written by Bobby Uncle.

Mimes Miss The Beach

Mimes Miss The Beach was never intended to be the opener track for the EP. Funnily, it was early October 2024 when I realised I needed a name for the EP. I always related myself as a mime who expresses themselves through music, never leaving the house and missing the beautiful things about life such as the beach, hence the title. I produced this song with my guitarist, Benjamin Kiely, within a day or two, had it mixed a day after that and had the master received the following week. This was hands down the quickest track I have finished in my career, but the creation process felt entirely natural the whole way.

The Way You Stand

This was a personal favourite of mine as I did not think there is any track out there that sounds like it or could be compared to. I wanted the song to have high-pitched vocals, driven by synths and 70s styled guitars creating a more nostalgic element to the verses and choruses. The object of this track was to have people dancing to it without any deep thought and is why the lyrics are quite superficial and non-meaningful. I just wanted people to associate the song with having fun.

Coffee

This is a crowd favourite every time I play it live. It never fails to get the crowd jumping and moving around and singing the chorus with me. I can only hope to recreate a song that is as well received as this one, that encourages listeners to get up and move about and forget their problems for a brief moment.

Pendulum

Pendulum was the first single from the EP that I released. This was the track that first represented the current sound that I am pushing for under Bobby Uncle. The song represents a common theme in young relationships, where a spark slowly burns out and with it the turbulent emotions, jumping up and down and swinging back and forth.

Summertime (Make It Happen)

I originally thought of Summertime (Make It Happen) during the winter of 2023. I have always thought the best time to write summer songs is when you miss it the most. You also are not affected by the Australian heat and the dry wind that makes you sweat throughout the day with the nights being a struggle to sleep through. Sort of like a past relationship, you reminisce only on the good memories. The lyrics of the song use a relationship as a device to talk about a dream that I wish to achieve. This was a writing trick taught to me whereby some complicated feelings and issues can be easily written when you express it like a relationship.

February (I Know)

February (I Know) was a change of pace for the EP. Placing it towards the end of the track list, I wanted audiences to take a brief break from the high intensity songs in the first half of the EP. I intended the audiences to take this time to focus on the lyrics and perhaps resonate with it.

Tragedy Delight

This was the bigger sounding track of the EP which I hoped to mask off Coldplay’s Hymn for the Weekend. I wanted the track to feel like there was a community of people singing it. A whole world and culture within the song that made you feel part of an audience of listeners singing the track. This was especially fundamental in the vocal style and repetition of the vocal melody in the chorus
