VASSY BECOMES THE FIRST WOMAN TO WIN THE EDMA ICONIC AWARD

By Brooke Gibbs.

Australian singer-songwriter VASSY made history on March 24 when she took home the EDMA Icon Award at the 2023 Electronic Dance Music Awards.

This well-deserved win follows VASSY’s recent success when Pieces (with Bingo Players and Disco Fries) reached number one in the UK Music Week and Billboard U.S Dance Charts. It comes as no surprise that Pieces was nominated for Best Dance Electronic Pop Song at the EDMA awards in Miami.

“I am proud that I can show other artists and ladies that you don’t have to be a guy or a DJ, and if you remain authentic to yourself, it will pay off,” VASSY told Futuremag Music on what it means to be the first woman to win this award.

“In such a male-dominated genre and DJ-Driven industry, as an artist in the dance space who is a singer/songwriter, I stayed authentic to myself, so to receive the 2023 ICON Award, being the first woman to do so, just reinforces how important it is to be true to yourself.”

Futuremag Music Editor Brooke Gibbs caught up with VASSY earlier this month to talk about the success Pieces has reached. You can read the full interview HERE.

“It’s such an honour to receive the EDMA ICON Award. To be recognised for my art and contribution to the Dance Community by my industry and the fans in the dance space, is such a rewarding moment and monumental career highlight. I thank everyone at Dance Radio across the US who have supported my music for years. I came to this country from a small town in Australia called Darwin, from a humble hardworking Greek family with a Dream to pursue my passion. I worked hard with integrity. It was not easy, as it is a DJ-driven boys club genre, but I stayed true to myself. The dance community at Radio really embraced me and gave me the platform to be myself and share my art with the world.  I’m beyond grateful and proud to say that being authentically myself  throughout my career payed off. Ladies, WOMAN can too be ICONS in Dance.”
