Whethan Interview - Having A Good Time
Meet Whethan, one of United States’ rising electronic sensations. The young artist has made a name for himself with his extensive catalogue reworks and remixes, and is now solidifying his position with outstanding originals. With the recent release of ‘Radar’, we had a chat to Whethan about his history with music, his production process, plus more.
Futuremag Music: Hey Whethan, how's life treating you?
Whethan: Life is great right now. I just got off the Life of a Wallflower tour and released my debut EP Life of a Wallflower Vol. 1. Now I’m gearing up for a tour in Asia and working on new music.
Futuremag Music: Jumping into it, can you talk us through your history and relationship with music over the years?
Whethan: I’ve always been around music whether it was my parents playing music in the house or when I would blast Kanye before my hockey games. Then when I heard Daft Punk and Skrillex when I was twelve I decided that I wanted to make my own music and that’s what I’ve been doing ever since.
Futuremag Music: You're known for your sensational remixes, flips, bootlegs, edits, and reworks. What are some favourite tracks that you've placed your own twist on?
Whethan: My favourite remix I’ve done is my remix of “City of the Roses” by TYuS. I really experimented with that one and tried a lot of things that I wouldn’t normally do. I really wanted to expand on my production abilities and the outcome felt unique to me and still does to this day.
Futuremag Music: Can you talk us through your recent release 'Radar' featuring Honne? What was the writing and production process like?
Whethan: Honne sent me the song initially and I wanted to put my spin on it. I was really trying to take the track to my world so I could play it live. The inspiration behind this track was a lot of funk and house music and just wanted to make the track groove. I’m also a big fan of Honne’s music so I was really happy to get them on this project.
Futuremag Music: A funny one to wrap it up. If 'Whethan' was a cocktail what would be in it to best describe yourself and your music?
Whethan: I’d say the ‘Whethan’ would be something similar to Sex on the Beach; a sweet and fun drink that says you’re going to have a good time.
