Meet Airports, one of Australia’s budding producers and vocalists making waves in the electronic sphere. We had a chat to the Sydney based muso about his start in music, recent single ‘Single Together’, and much more!
Futuremag Music: Hey Airports, what's cracking?
Airports: Just doin a dope ass interview!
Futuremag Music: Can you talk us through your relationship with music over the years? How did you move into the production and songwriting?
Airports: Music has always been my catharsis and passion since I was really young. I grew up around it (muso dad), and started playing various instruments in high school punk bands, fell in love with dance music and hip hop in my teens, learned how to DJ and produce then started my journey with my own pop music and vocals over the last few years.

Futuremag Music: Your recent single, 'Single Together' is a jam, can you talk us through the production and writing process? What was your favourite aspect when constructing the single?
Airports: Thank you! It is indeed a jam - I literally wanted to make a 2000's RnB inspired good vibe. I was in Melbourne working with some producer mates (which is a different approach for me as I usually produce most of my own music), and Hamley was showing me some beats. I knew I was after a particular type of magic, it was the last thing he showed me (those opening synth chords) and I knew that was the one. We flipped the beat, I started writing hooks, took it home and finished it all off. Then that was ‘Single Together’!
Futuremag Music: I also saw you played a big part in the creation of Dance Boss, an Aussie Dance competition. Can you talk us through the process when producing for a TV show?
Airports: I did a heap of music production and remixing for Dance Boss. I basically created cool things for the choreographers to write routines too. It was a fun experience working with so much amazing talent in a field I'm not from. The dance industry is way too overlooked by the music industry in this country. Also awesome to get to be at the episode shoots!
Futuremag Music: A funny one to wrap it up. If 'Airports' was a cocktail, what would be in it to best describe yourself and your music?
Airports: Pina Colada but with something foreign and spooky mixed in too from another dimension. Familiar, fresh but edgy and new.
