Katile Interview - Born To Perform

Meet Katile, a US based vocalist rising the ranks with her infectious pop. We had a chat to Katile about her start in music, and her new track 'All Caught Up'.

Futuremag Music: Hey Katile, how's things in your side of town?

Katile: Things are great. Its hot and sunny here in NY!

Futuremag Music: Could you talk us through the development of the Katile project? How did you move into music?

Katile: Well I’ve been singing since I was a young girl. My mom was always playing great music in the house growing up, and we sang in a church choir together. My grandfather was also in a bluegrass band called “The Jersey Mountain Boys”, he was the lead singer and played the guitar and stand up bass. Growing up I always wanted to be just like him. So music has always been a huge part of my life. I ended up doing Musical Theatre all through high school, and went on to study it in College. After college I decided that I should really just pave my own way and create my own music. And I haven’t looked back since.

Futuremag Music: Can you please take us through the writing process of your new single 'So Caught Up'? What went into the production, and what's your favourite aspect of the single?

Katile: I started working with my producer Mark Eckert, and before we even worked, we spoke a ton about what kind of sound I wanted with this new single. We went back and forth to really perfect the track. When it came to the melody and lyrics usually they come to me together. I usually play the track super loud over and over and just start singing melodies, until I feel like, ok, that's the one. Once I find the hook, I then go back to the verses and write out the story lyrics wise. I think my favourite aspect of the new single is how true to myself it is. The lyrics are a specific time in my life, so I hope people can relate to it.

Futuremag Music: A funny one to wrap it up. If 'Katile" was a cocktail what would be in it to best describe yourself and your music?

Katile: I would be Empress 1908 Gin, which is this awesome purple/blueish tinted Gin, with fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, topped with sparkling wine (because everything is better with bubbles). Served in a champagne glass and garnished with a lemon twist!
