CREATIVE CONVERSATIONS 091: NATASHA BIANCA IS 'NOT UR FRIEND'

Interview by Brooklyn Gibbs.

Natasha Bianca is here to help you say goodbye to toxic relationships with her latest release, Not Ur Friend.

Futuremag Music caught up with the Adelaide-based artist to discuss the drama that went into this cheeky, sassy, pop anthem.

FMM: Congrats on your latest release! What has the reaction to it been like so far?

Natasha: Thank you so much! It’s been really rewarding so far. The response has been incredible and a lot of fans have stated its their personal favourite too, so its been really great so far.

FMM: Not Ur Friend is about leaving behind toxic behaviours in friendships and realising your worth. Was there a particular experience that inspired this release?

Natasha: Yeah absolutely! All of my songs are inspired from personal experiences. It took me a while to see that the people I was surrounded by were doing myself no good and I was actually stuck in an extremely toxic environment. I knew I had to protect myself and remove myself from that environment.

FMM: Do you ever wonder if the toxic left-behind friends will come across this song? What would you like to say to them?
Natasha: (
laughs). I do sometimes wonder if they come across my music, but ultimately I’d love to say thanks because we produced a great song out of it!

FMM: I feel like this is an experience that every listener can relate to. What do you hope they take away from it?
Natasha:
I hope people can relate and realise their worth when listening to this song. I strongly believe the people you surround yourself with are so important and you don’t want to be trapped in someone’s toxic energy and tearing you down. It’s okay to distance yourself from relationships that are no longer empowering or self-serving.

FMM: The song is a groovy as bop! Do you produce your own music? If so, what’s your process?

Natasha: I don’t produce my music, but I work with an amazing team of creatives who help me with my vision. I thought I had an exact creative process, but lately every song has been made so differently. I usually would go into the studio with an idea or something already written, but this song was made completely on the spot. My producer was creating the beat which is super fun and poppy and I loved it straight away. Myself and my co-writer started bouncing back and forward ideas and we were set on the theme and we eventually came up with the final product.

FMM: For anyone coming across your music for the first time, do you mind sharing a bit about who you are as a creative and what you hope to achieve in the Australian music scene?

Natasha: I’d love to achieve so many things in my music career, whether its touring and selling out shows or meeting my idol Beyonce, but ultimately the main thing I want to achieve in my career is to be able to help someone through the power of music. If my music can touch someone in need, I feel like my job is done. I’d also love to help grow and shine light on the Australian RnB and Hip Hop music scene as I feel its severely under looked in Australia when we have so much talent here.
FMM:
What’s next for you?
Natasha:
Lots of music!! I’m very excited about the new music I have lined up for the rest of 2022 and 2023. Potentially a bigger project for 2023 also but that’s currently top secret.
