EXTENDED PLAY 068: NEW MUSIC OF THE WEEK APRIL 30 - MAY 6
Futuremag runs you through its favourite new releases of the week.
Yours Truly - Sour
This Sydney trio has transitioned into a dazzling new era ahead of their new album, TOXIC, due for release in August. "Sour was written during a session after I was feeling extremely burnt out," shares vocalist Mikaila Delgado. "We had come off extensive touring and quite a turbulent time not only for the band but personally as well. I was just feeling so bitter towards everything and trying to force writing when it just wasn’t naturally flowing made me so angry. We got to a stage as a band where we had a lot of people in our ear telling us what to do and how they thought we should do it. I just thought “fuck this, this is our fucking band, I’m going to do what I want!"
Flight Facilities feat. Enumclaw- Days of the Week
Written in Los Angeles, Days of the Week follows the wrap of Flight Facilities’ Trouble Tour, which concluded with dual weekend performances at Coachella’s coveted Yuma Tent. The duo, steeped in Southern California spirit, indulges in a playful commentary on stereotypical LA, with nods to the city’s guilty pleasures like overpriced Erewhon smoothies, plastic surgery, and influencer culture.
Tierney Brothers - Lemonade
An upbeat, summery bop, Lemonade is our first taste of the duo’s debut album which is scheduled for release later this year. Tierney Brothers’ debut single opens with an immediate catchy whistling refrain and carefree guitar strumming. Then instrumentation enters gradually until the song’s effervescent chorus explodes with woozy, loved-up melodies. We’ve always known them as brothers as part of Human Nature, but this full-circle moment underlines not only their brotherly bond, but their ability to write and record together.
Polish Club - Manila
This track signifies a new era for the Sydney-based two-piece rock band after leaving their major record and moving into self-management as an independent band. Co-written by Robby De Sa (MAY-A, Vera Blue, Gretta Ray, Grent Perez), the track is a touch more dreamy and wistful than we’ve become accustomed to hearing from the usually brash rock and roll duo, yet it retains their signature relentless energy and emotive vocals.
Narakel - Jaeger Freestyle
The Sydney-based 19-year-old RnB artist has released his final single before his EP release era. The atmospheric track and vocal production blend together to encapsulate the emotions of the fast-paced, drug-fuelled environment present in the underground “low life” culture of Sydney.

Hiatus Kaiyote - Telescope
On Telescope, the band transports listeners to an intimate crux in the universe to find solace in their shared musicality. Speaking on the track’s significance, Bender (bass) shares, “NASA has a website where you can type in your birthday and then it will tell you the most interesting thing that the Hubble telescope took a picture of on your birthday. Each of the four verses is based on our four birthdays.”
