Words by Luke Byatt
Welcome to Future Focus, an editorial series providing a personable glimpse into some of best music releasing in the scene. Future Focus 047 features the diverse and vibrant sounds of Farrah, Pachinko, San Joseph, and Holow.
RL Grime & ISOxo - Stinger (Farrah Flip)
Hong Kong based producer and DJ, Farrah is making a buzz in the Bass scene and her recent flip of RL Grime and ISOxo’s ‘Stinger’ is a testament to her growing audience.
The hard trap aesthetic that RL Grime and ISOxo imbued into ‘Stinger’ has been retained throughout the remix, while Farrah’s addition melodic elements elevate the record to new heights. This balance between utter filthy trap and a more fluid aesthetic has been perfectly captured within the three minute duration. Regardless if it’s an official remix, flip or an unmistakeable original, Farrah is an expert producer with a knack of creating a grade Bass music. Her rework of ‘Stinger’ enhances the iconic dance record into a new space.
I can’t wait to see Farrah explode in the near future!
Pachinko - Laneway Girl
Pachinko may be a new comer to the scene but his track ‘Laneway Girl’ is a sign of his prosperous future.
‘Laneway Girl’ swoons with a lush R&B aesthetic. If you love the sounds of rei brown, NIKI, Seori or keshi, Pachinko is aligned perfectly with your interests. The lavish production dances with Pachinko’s flirtatious vocal performance resulting in a record that is equally applicable for a laidback weekend or a candle lit dinner with your significant other. Pachinko is quickly proving himself as an up and coming force in the Australian R&B scene, with ‘Laneway Girl’ being a prime example of that sentiment.
I’m very excited to hear what’s to come from Pachinko.
San Joseph - Blink Twice
San Joesph made quite a splash with his debut record ‘Blink Twice’; now the single has an equally impressive music video!
‘Blink Twice’ is an a-grade Indie Pop record, drawing parallels to Hauskey, Sycco, Budjerah and Kita Alexander. San Joseph brings his light filled recording to life by employing ROME on film making duties. Being the director behind Benee’s ‘Superlonely’ and Mallrat’s ‘Better’ videos, ROME delivers a fun filled music video packed with visual storytelling. The accomplished director explains, “hen I heard the track, I knew that whatever we made needed to feel fun and bouncy, but I wanted to contrast the fun with darker elements, so I came up with the concept for Blink Twice. It aims to look like a scene out of an old gambling film, loose characters who are putting it all on the line in the hopes of winning big, with San Joseph attempting to beat them at their own game.”
San Joseph and ROME are master of their respective crafts, and I can’t wait to hear and see what’s to come.
Holow - Comet
France’s Holow is back with ‘Comet’, a lively Dance Pop record.
‘Comet’ is truely a bubbly number that flows with unbridled pizzazz. From the buoyant production to the infectious lyrical cadence, the record evokes an uncontrollable groove. Elements of French Touch cascade through ‘Comet’s the Electro Pop bounds, resulting in an earworm that’ll be lodged in your brain for hours. If you enjoy ‘Comet’, definitely look into Holow’s catalogue, there’s so many wonderful records to discover.
